Clark Gracie is one of the best in the world at the omaplata. This instructional is great for anyone who already loves this move or for anyone who wants a deeper understanding of it.
Prof Clark explained well the many techniques he covered. I especially like the details on how to counter the typical reactions and defence from your partner. Pace is good. Smart move to have the two guys wearing different coloured gi for a clearer view. This is not true for other videos.
Great Stuff
Amazing omoplata basic concepts, that will help you to understand that possition. Not only for submit, also to control and sweep your opponent, I'm waiting for the next omoplata instructional
Got a News Style of Game with this instructional!
An in-depth study of the omoplata. I appreciate the corrections common mistakes and new insights regarding the submission and position.
In this instructional Clark Gracie provides a comprehensive study of the omoplata including an introduction, a range of “fundamental and intermediate” entries, reliably finishing the submission and a range of complementary techniques. The instructional runs for 2 hours 6 minutes and consists of 24 chapters. Vol 1 (30 minutes) covers teaching the basic omoplata and then a series of entries including open guard when the opponent is kneeling; spider guard when the opponent is standing; and closed guard from both the flower sweep and the elevator sweep / single hook sweep. Vo 2 (36 minutes) teaches from the closed guard a backwards rolling sweep to side control with the potential to enter a triangle depending on where the opponent places their arms or if they attempt to defend the sweep you can move to an omoplata; a closed guard entry from compromising the opponent’s posture; and a series a submission transitions, triangle from guard and several armbars from guard and side control where the initial submission is failing to a successful omoplata or modifying the initial submission to make it work (e.g. triangle to reverse triangle). Vol 3 (22 minutes) teaches how to address omoplata counters including when the opponent postures up using their free arm during the early stages of the technique; again, posturing up but instead of using their free arm using their opposite leg; and posturing up with the opposite leg and also grabbing your extended leg providing the opponent with opportunities for a toe hold or to assist in their posturing and escaping. The second part of this volume teaches three omoplata entries from the De La Riva guard. Vol 4 (38 minutes) teaches several omoplata techniques from the lasso guard (opponent kneeling and standing); how to counter when an opponent attempts to roll out of an omoplata; a drill for developing your omoplata skills; and an introduction to a technique called the pretzelplata. In summary, the pretzelplata is taught from lasso and involves sweeping your opponent so that they end up face down with their far leg under their body with this leg resting on your lap and with their near arm in an omoplata. Clark Gracie is clearly very knowledgeable about the omoplata. His instructions are clear and to the point. He clearly demonstrates and narrates each of the techniques. As is usual, all the techniques are repeated from different angles. In my opinion this is an easy instruction to watch and it flows logically from technique to technique. Overall, the range, quality of the vision and sound is good. A single fixed camera has been used and the range of the camera is good. The available preview is consistent with the whole instructional. In summary, this is an excellent instructional on the omoplata and if you are looking to broaden your range of submissions then this would be a worthwhile instructional to purchase.
GREAT ABSOLUTELY GREAT
The videos are clear and the explanations easy to follow. Clark strings together the movements and ideas in a logical way. It definitely has me playing with positions in my rolls.
Another great instructional from BJJ Fanatics! Clear and easy to implement program from an Omoplata legend.
Omoplata was not the submission I would have chosen as a specialty. After watching Bernardo Faria Omoplata Everyone I started seeing it everywhere and hitting it all the time. Then I ran into Clark Gracie and purchased this digital. I’ve watched it 20 times and drilled every move at least 100x. Since then my game totally changed. I’m just a blue belt but I don’t care your rank if I hit that move you’ve got a problem. :call_me_hand:
Great details and finish options!
Great video help me with new set ups into the omoplata. And a deeper understanding of a system that can be used. Thank you for this dvd it help me alot a new layer to my game.
Great instruction by Clark Gracie. He shows several entries when opponent is on knees and standing. The instructional has great details on how finish the omoplata submission. Clark also shows sweeps, counters and his pretzeloplata. Great instructional if you like the omoplata position and want to improve it.
Thanks for the knowledge and systeme ,excellent, ossss
Very sorry, but this isn't exactly a review of the video but my instructor invited Clark Gracie to give a seminar at our gym, which focused on the Omoplata. If the DVD is anywhere near as good as his omoplata seminar was, I highly recommend it. I haven't purchased this video yet, but I definitely will be soon.
Clark Gracie is the best! Excellent detail and instruction!
Excellent!
This instructional is fantastic. The entries that Clark Gracie shows are fundamental and intermediate level entries that just work. This isn't about fancy omoplata entries that you would never do in a competition. This is tried and true competition tested omoplata material that he has been using for years. The entries are hardly the best part though. There are a million ways you can get into an omoplata, and it's what happens from there where this instructional really shines. My favorite part of this instructional, and it is all solid gold, is Part 3 where he covers all the counters to omoplata defenses. At the start of this instructional, he mentions that a lot of people look at the omoplata primarily as a sweeping position, but he views it as always an opportunity to get the finish. Learning the counters to the defenses and dealing with scenarios where you can't get into perfect finishing position is absolutely game changing if you love omoplatas. Here's the bottom line: I love everything omoplata, and I have purchased pretty much every resource on the omoplata. This one covers a number of details and concepts that 1) I haven't seen anyone else teach, and 2) have had the biggest impact on my omoplata game compared to any other omoplata instructional. There's a reason Clark Gracie is known for his omoplata finishes in competition. It has helped my game step up, and I definitely recommend this instructional.
