Simple, clear, effective
Baulding's guard retention video series has helped me in both concrete and intangible ways. His specific retention recommendations like framing and leg windmilling are really useful, but also his attitude that aside from techniques, guard retention is also about confidence, has helped me fight to retain guard in positions I previously would have mentally conceded. If you follow him on IG or Youtube you'll see he has this unique and warm way of encouraging his viewers to keep trying. I love the way he has Placido replicate the techniques as Baulding coaches him - that helped me drive home some of his lessons, like making bigger movements. I return to these videos again and again to tune up the techniques shown.

When I start to train no gi I found a lot of problems in guard retention. Now I'm a little bit better thank you Alec. Every content in this series is gold.

The was one of the first guard rentention instructionals I’ve watched and its a game changer! Vast improvements in my retention almost instantly. Whats great is these techniques can be used in the gi too. Highly recommend and Alec is a great instructor. Clear and concise. No repetitive slow fluff.

This is a great intro to guard retention that also translates well to the gi. If you’re feeling lost in open guard you will get a great value from this.

Alec's instruction is clear. The techniques are very accessible. I can't wait for other modules in the series. All in all, a great package. I would definitely recommend this dvd to anyone looking for great instruction on maintaining the guard.

Alec has a good way of explaining his frame of thought for the position and transition. I liked how simple he made this instructional.

This series is extremely applicable. Alec Baulding's instruction is super clear, and all of the details he presents are very clear. Most of the series is directly drillable moments after watching it, and Alec does a great job sharing things to look out for and warnings regarding each technique. This is meat-and-potatoes jiu jitsu with just the right amount of details to improve your game. I am super happy I have purchased this and am looking forward to drilling this material more. The only downside is the DLR attack portion of the series is a bit sparse, but since that's not the focus of the dvd I don't count it against it. I just hope Alec comes out with a series as applicable as this one is for his guard system.
