Jon does a great job explaining different options that you have for escaping to seated guard and more. This is a great look into some easier escapes for those that prefer this type of game.
Time and time again I revisit this instructional and Jon Satava has outlined some great butterfly guard retention tactics. I have been able to apply this in sparring more often. A must have in your BJJ Fanatics library!
J. S. provided an unique instructional for recovering guard seated or supine and get back up to seated position. Furthermore it is about reattacking immediately after recovery or even during recovery. Explained in simple steps and with proper details. Love it!
Must have for butterfly enthusiasts. A lot of info helping with retention and recovery
good solid fundamentals from seated guard great addition to anyone wanting to play this position
In this Jon brilliantly explains the details of retaining butterfly guard. He has mind blowing insights and solutions to issues a lot of butterfly players face. This inscrtuctional is exellent.
Really liked this instructional. It’s unique information that’s hard to find elsewhere and fits into an aggressive system. Most people just go for the usual supine recovery — which is fine if you’re playing a supine guard. But here you can be back up to an aggressive stance in no time.
I didn’t know what to expect but bought based on the title. Some good contents and interesting details. Enough details to make the techniques executable without overwhelming with detail.
Alot of Good Material!!

Needs for everyone
Just what I was looking for to help my seated guard retention very detailed. Great job again bjjfanatics.
It really addressed a big gap in my game.
What I liked most about the instructional was that it utilized the principal of off balancing your opponent as not only a defense against submissions but an opportunity to counter with sweeps, front Headlock, back takes, and open guard recovery.
One of the best insteuctionals I have purchased from BJJ Fanatics. I have always struggled with open guard retention but since practicing coach Satava’s techniques it has gotten much better. He breaks down all scenarios on hiw someone can get passed from seated guard n gives solutions. HIGHLY recommend.
