  I've been training in Erik Paulson's CSW system for 10 years and I still get amazed by the wealth of details in Erik's teachings. Whether from learning from the man himself or through his instructionals, he's never shy at sharing information and won't just show you one lock - he'll show you all the others you can do on the way to that submission too! This STF collection is no different. Erik shares opportunities for heel hooks and arm locks you can get off the different setups, either before or following the STF. The various angles and approaches to what you may think is just one technique is mindblowing. In this set, he squeezes so much in and continuously surprises, with great demonstration by Erik himself and his two assistants Javi and Trent. Highly recommended.

  Erik breaks out some nastiness that your BJJ training partners won’t expect. In my club, I’m not allowed to do leg locks due to my belt level. However, I’m practicing this with my ***** and will be able to break out the STF when I am given the greenlight to do so!

• Can’t Wait To Use This

  Great instruction from Paulson here. As I am at a new club and still a bit of a BJJ newbie, it wouldn’t be kosher for me to use this in rolls there yet. However, I have a 20 year old son who who is a hoss that does BJJ at another club, and I caught him in this in an impromptu roll at the house. He never saw it coming, the STF worked right out of the box! A great weapon to add to your BJJ / grappling arsenal!

• Anything Paulson makes is worth buying

  BJJ Fanatics needs to get him to make more sets. I love the wide variety of setups and the calf crushers and transition to various submissions from there are great.

• Amazing content!

  I first came across Erik Paulson's tutorials almost 20 years ago on a BJJ website. They were short videos that I would download via dial up internet, and even then his material was solid gold. Erik is a BJJ black belt that uses his catch wrestling knowledge to come up with moves that are great for catching people in BJJ. All his instructional material that I have seen over the years has been first class. I saw this video on Erik's instagram and have been frothing for it to be released. I have used the step over toe hold several times working in law enforcement as a safe was to restrain dangerous and resisting offenders, it is a very versatile move and I could not wait to see Erik's take on using it for submissions. So far I have only watched the first video, but it is absolute solid gold, I can see multiple opportunities to catch easy, unexpected submissions in my BJJ training against open guard, knee shield etc. We are currently locked down here in Australia, but I cannot wait to get back into the gym and tap everyone out with these techniques!

  Old school submissions being revived for a new generation of grapplers. BJJ Fanatics continue to up their game with these brilliant instructionals. Like Erik Paulson says in the introduction, the STF, or the stepover toehold facelock (also known as a leg ride and reverse head crank), was innovated by the late, great catch wrestler Lou Thesz. The STF has now since been popularized in show pro wrestling but it started off as a legitimate submission innovated by Thesz during his competitive sparring contests in the 1930s. For those who don't know who Lou Thesz is, he was one of the last true shooters in professional wrestling as it made the gradual transition from legit sport to athletic sports entertainment. He was taught by very dangerous men but since there was no MMA or professional submission grappling at the time, Thesz wrestled professionally to continue to do his sport. The legendary Gene LeBell, who was taught a lot of his submission grappling by Thesz, has said that Thesz was one of the most dangerous men he knew. To put it simply: He was the real deal. Paulson brings the hold back to its real submission grappling roots with a variety of entries, picks and setups. It's a versatile move that can also transition to ankle locks, heel hooks and classic catch submissions like the half boston crab. For those looking for something different to add to their ground game, this instructional is highly recommended.
