Great video, very good insight into the concepts behind DLR that are great. At times, Mikey can sound like a broken record, but he does succeed in pounding the core elements into your head. He also goes over appropriate hand/foot placement ad nauseum. Good purchase.

I had learned some De La Riva techniques occasionally before, but had never really used it in sparring. After watching this series my De La Riva is one of my strongest guards. The focus on retention and and off balancing has dramatically improved my ability to use De La Riva aggressively and pickup new techniques with minimal effort.

I was inspired to write my first BJJ fanatics video review because I have just finished parts 1-3 of Berimbolo series and just started the DLR series, part 1. As an aside, the berimbolo series was excellent. Mikey systematically, grip by grip, demystifies the berimbolo in a way that made it perfectly understandable and applicable to any game. Rather than just being detail oriented for details sake, he shows you how the details fit into the entire system and make the position work. In contrast, I didn’t know quite what to expect on this DLR series. I’ve been playing DLR for most of my time in Jiu jitsu; in fact, it is my main guard. I thought I understood the position pretty well. What Mikey showed me is that there is a real science behind jiu jitsu, and he brings his full theory and practice to explaining and breaking down DLR and all of the possible actions and reactions from this position. I’ve never experienced jiu jitsu being taught in this way. He takes out the guess work and tells you what exactly to do and when, depending on your opponents reaction, and he explains the “why” of positions and reactions by grounding it in physics and biomechanics. I have a completely new appreciation for the DLR and the mechanics involved. In addition, Mikey’s enthusiasm and humor put personal touches on a product that make it feel unique and quirky and utterly Mikey. The uke, his sister Tammy, an expert herself on these positions, asks poignant and well-timed questions that give even more insight into the position. I hope Tammy stays on as uke for the rest of his instructionals. At this point in my exploration, I can confidently say that Mikey’s instructionals, including this one, are a step above the rest. Like a Danaher or a Ryan, Mikey breaks down the systems and the science behind those systems that can take any average practitioner and turn them into a wizard. As a jiu jitsu practitioner, this is the best money spent by far. Invest in your technical progress and learn the meta-game behind DLR and back takes. It is completely worth it.

I've watched a handful of bolo instructionals, but this one by Mikey by far exceeds all of them. Mikey goes to great depth in his instructional, he breaks down the series in a robust way that makes it easy to follow and easy to piece the bolo system. I highly recommend this bolo instructional. Mikey is a phenomenal instructor.

Great aproach to De La Riva Guard foundations, covering situations when the opponent has shoulders forward and is attacking both with Toreando grips or Collar grip. Musumeci teaches not only what to do, but also why.

I learned more about Jiu Jitsu in the introduction than I have learned from many other instructional videos. Mikey is changing the game by releasing his positional concepts and details.
