Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging:A deep dive into an underrated and powerful technique (long review)
The hip bump sweep is one of those underrated techniques that if mastered can really upgrade your game, particularly if you are often in the closed guard (bottom) position. It is surprisingly effective, with you ending up in the mount or can be used as an entry into several types of submissions. In my experience you can effectively sweep people of all sizes, provided you have a good entry and execute the technique properly. The other benefit of this technique is that if you are unsuccessful in your sweep attempt, other than expending some energy, you don’t normally end up in a worse position, noting that there is a risk of a back take. Usefully Ryan Hall does teach how to take advantage of being driven back down to the ground in this instructional. This No-Gi instructional by Ryan Hall will certainly improve your understanding of the hip bump sweep including: the theory; different types of hip bump sweeps; highlighting the small but important details; how to execute the sweep successfully; how to wrestle up from the hip bump position; and countering the opponent’s defence using a guillotine or kimura. Ryan Hall also teaches several submissions (i.e., triangle, omaplata, and armbar) entered using the hip bump motion leading to the opponent posting with their arm to stop being swept, however I would have like more time allocated to teaching these techniques. In the last volume (12 minutes of material) Ryan Hall teaches some techniques from the octopus’ guard. The instructional has a total run time of 2 hours and 3 minutes. Ryan Hall’s demonstrations and explanations of the techniques are clear. Importantly he stays on topic during his presentation. A good feature is that during the demonstrations he highlights important factors, such as the position of the body, where pressure is applied and direction of force. There are no notable issues with sound or video quality (e.g., range, focus, or lighting). This instructional appears to have been filmed in a training facility. The preview chapter [Vol 2, Chapter 7 - Build 2 (Lat and Up)] is consistent (i.e., sound and vision) with the balance of the instructional. In summary, I am pleased to have purchased this instructional, however in terms of content I would have appreciated more time allocated to teaching the complementary submissions and teaching how to actively create opportunities to enter the hip bump sweep.
Ryan Hall at its best
Ryan Hall is from my perspective one of the best instructors as he teaches great concepts with a depth of details and not too complicated or exaggerated. The Hip Bump is a lost art and he brings it back to the attention of people who like to play foundation moves like that

Great details on the bump sweep. I was able to take away details from this instructional and apply them to other sweeps to great success.

Great details in this instructional that instantly made my hip bump higher percentage. Gave me more options and what to look out for to hit the sweep.

R. H. gives great insights in how to think about base and structure. How to use every part of body and limbs as a shield. Furthermore he shows how to off balance your opponent and dealing with posted arms and body locks. Of course based around the hip bump. Followed by how to wrestle up or move to octopus guard. And of course how to submit within the hip bump. Recommended!
Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging:Great investment
I was a bit skeptical at 1st, but being the small guy that I am, I needed a reliable way to get from bottom position to the top. I already knew the hip bump sweep but I was rarely successful with it. Ryan highlights various aspects of the movement that are key to actually being able to complete it without getting smashed back down to the mat. I've never been so confident in my hip bumping ability and I actually look forward to being in closed guard now so it was well worth the price for me.

Ryan Hall takes a ‘fundamental’ sweep and gives it a modern twist. Highly recommended
