This is a brutal and highly offensive version of side control. I liked the content a lot.
Erik Paulson breaks down this effective but often misunderstood position. Enjoyed it immensely and recommend it to everyone looking to expand their repertoire.
Awesome. Erik Paulson is an encyclopedia.
I love playing kesa gatame and this add multiple solutions to my game
I've had BJJ instructors who are somewhat dismissive of kesa gatame—yet the position has always fascinated me. This instructional is proof positive that the naysayers are wrong. Paulson offers an encyclopedia of variants of the kesa gatame position, escapes, and subs as only he can. Super awesome!
Erik is on point with precission and conclusion as well as going into combinations. He shows how dynamic this pin/hold/submission is and how to chain submissions together. With a dry sense of humor:slightly_smiling:
Simple to follow. Great for any level. Can genuinely say this has improved my game more than any other instructional. I recommend it to all my friends.
Erik is an awesome instructor. All of his material has helped my game.
At the time of writing this review the written product description for this instructional describes this as an instructional about pinning, controlling and attacking from the kesa gatame, but this instructional is so much more. There is great coverage of a multitude of different escapes from the kesa gatame and these escape techniques are covered in detail. The escaping material is also accompanied by material on how to counter attempts to escape from the kesa gatame. The first two volumes cover positioning, pinning, escaping, and getting back into position if the opponent manages to escape your hold. The final volume is focused on teaching the attacks and for each chapter there are generally multiple variants of the technique being taught. You are flooded with lots of material. It will take a while to work through all of content, to study, learn and practice it. In my opinion you may need to dissect several of the chapters to be able to confidently understand the techniques and this is where bookmarking will help. The instructional has a total run time of 1 hour and 55 minutes. Erik Paulson is such a knowledgeable and experienced fighter and instructor. As an aside it is interesting watching him in this instructional, given his age and physique to see how fast and strong he is. He speaks and demonstrates clearly and is aware of the need to demonstrate from different angles. In general techniques are repeated twice. In my opinion he moves through the material at a quick pace. I would have preferred for this pace to be slowed down. There are no notable issues with sound or video quality (e.g., range, focus, or lighting). This instructional appears to have been filmed in a training facility. The preview chapter (Vol 3, Chapter 6 - Ezekiel choke] and the trailer are consistent (i.e., sound and vision) with the balance of the instructional. If you have an interest in the kesa gatame either to use it from the top or to defend against it, this is a worthwhile instructional to buy. So much information about the kesa gatame. Personally, I would buy it just for the material on the escapes and counters, but it is much more. Kesa gatame is a great position, as it puts your training partner under physical pressure immediately and if you know how to counter their escape attempts you have time to apply a suitable submission. More importantly it is a horrible position to be in from the bottom (e.g., crushing pressure, if done well) and you really do need to be able to quickly escape before the opponent can solidify the position.
Looks goods. I enjoyed going through it and can’t wait to really delve deep into it
Erik Paulson is a master Catch Wrestler and BJJ instructor. Everything he produces is pure gold. You can't beat Erik Paulson instructionals as they are rich in technique and history. This instructional is considered CaCC and "no gi" Judo but is fantastic for any grappling style.
The kesa retention is pure gold.
Like all of eriks instructionals its awesome! He is a legend!
