good teaching method
A very good and straight forward to the point instructional for your stand up game.
Perfect system to start with for takedowns in bjj, even if you’ve never done any judo or if you have a good refresher. Great for all skill levels a the video instructions are very clear an understandable.
What sets this video apart from other videos about using Judo for BJJ is that Higashi presents a unified system and full game. Each throw leads into another in a beautiful circle of endless attack. This is also a great Judo system for Judo because you can see where turn throws might be inserted.
I wish I saw this video years ago! Great explanations and details from judo that apply to bjj as well. If your standup needs work like mine than this is a must have
Really good approach for people first getting into takedowns. I like the approach of looking at this strictly from the BJJ perspective, and working with low rik manuevers
my stand up is garbage but i've been able to hit the moves from this instructional with little risk. learned a lot of new cool things!
Good introduction of judo throws geared to the BJJ player who have different rules set and exposing the back can be a liability. Helpful for the stand up game. Shintaro Higashi is a great judo couch and I like his material.
highly recommended for not judokas
Simple and Understandable Skill at standing position
When I got this instructional a year ago, I was a pretty new white belt and had no confidence in my stand-up game. I could never hit osoto gari or ogoshi techniques on a resisting opponent even though we drilled them in class. The reality is, I still usually can't... but Shintaro's instructional opened my eyes to the fact that I don't necessarily need to. Shintaro's system offers a better selection of techniques that are easier to become decent at AND they are lower risk. For me, that has translated into so much more confidence on my feet. And understandably so, the system helps increase your success rate AND eliminate most of the bad outcomes if you don't hit the technique. Don't get me wrong, the instructional does not replace the importance of having a killer osoto gari or ogoshi (they still are meat-and-potatoes weapons in a takedown specialist's arsenal), but it's more geared towards creating the most effective way of transitioning to the ground on terms that are beneficial to you. I've been following Shintaro online for a while and I think he's great as a teacher as well. Great content and a great teacher. Easy to give it 5 stars.
Well put together information on Judo that works for BJJ. For those that don't want to spend a lot of time and pain learning Judo.
Very eye opening foundational concepts that anyone can add to make their standup game even better. Shintaro does a great job of being very straightforward in his explanations and wasting no time showing you how it works. Even accidently sent his partner flying to the wall at one point.
He's really good with judo instructions. Check him out on Judo Fanatics! But also, what's great about this one is that these are the judo throws you can use in BJJ with "low risk." You don't want to do an Ippon Seoi Nage that gets your back taken on BJJ competitions and lose the match thereafter. This instructional has info. and directions on how to do Ippon Seoi Nage on BJJ competitions without running into troubles. Overall, it's a great instructional for 1) beginners or someone who needs to work on takedowns and 2) as a good transition for judoka competitors to go to BJJ competitions.
