A very thorough explanation of different takedowns that don’t require Olympic level athletic skills. And is applicable to all adult levels.
The communication of the instruction is excellent and thought out! Techniques are useless without good communication. The title is accurate! If you put the time into learning these takedowns they will work. I cross train at a few competitive gyms with younger, athletic members and implement these takedowns. The concepts that get taught in conjunction with this techniques is worth the price of the instructional. Another value added feature is the instruction of how to train. It will save you having to purchase a video on how to train to become the next ADCC champion. Also, the techniques have been field tested and vetted by a high lever wrestler and wrestling coach!
As an over 40 grappler with no prior wrestling experience, I found this video great. Just what I was looking for.
Great instructional to learn stand up and takedown basics! Very good instructor who gives both details + the why behind techniques. Especially recommended for those who are less athletic or just don't want to shoot for takedowns!
I'm really enjoying this instructional because it doesn't assume athleticism and is generally geared toward those of us who have some anxiety about takedowns. Heinz's explanations are very clear and the progression is gradual, which is likely because he is (or was) an educator off the mats.
Solid material for jiu-jitsu students of any level. Great investment!
I wish I had this series when I first started training as a white belt. Hopefully, it'll prevent another generation of butt scooters...
An oft overlooked part of BJJ, the takedown is vitally important to taking control of any altercation. “Magic Mike” Heinz makes it as simple as possible in his teachings. Master class stuff here that everyone in the sport should know.
Takedown has been an intimidating part of my jiu jitsu journey as a small female without much athletic background. The risk of injury from heavy throws is a concern for me and the cost of failure is quite substantial as well. I love this course because it offers an approach that reduces the risk of injury, the cost of failure, and is not dependent upon athleticism or strength. I love the concept of sagging and using your body weight to make your opponent move slower. As a small female, going to the back is a great option for me and this course shows how to get to your opponent’s back in an effective and energy efficient way. Really well articulated and well organized course. Easy to follow and implement immediately. Highly recommend!!!
Coach Mike has a way of simplifying things so that anyone can make it work. Always ensuring that the process will work on someone younger, stronger, and bigger than yourself. This material is well worth it. Thanks Coach

I’m a student of Michael’s and I’ve enjoyed his approach to takedowns. We learned a good deal of this system in our classes, but having it all put together in a nice package here is quite helpful. I found over my years of training that most schools just don’t spend enough time on takedowns and so many of us, especially as we get older and more concerned about injuries tend to just avoid takedowns altogether, or worse, end up being shameful guard pullers 😆. This system is great for being a very approachable and easily implementable way of handling stand-up and getting simple takedowns that won’t be so stressful on your body. I haven’t been through the entire video series here, but I’m sure Michael also shares a lot of interesting nuggets along the way, he does like to talk a bit, but it’s always interesting. I’d recommend checking this one out.
Starting jiu-jitsu at 50 and not having had the benefit of anything like wrestling or judo in my life up to now, this series is like a cheat code for approaching the takedown part of the game. Michael has managed to break down a complete standup system into easy to understand parts that not only work well on their own but together to create a whole series of dilemmas and trilemmas. This isn’t a “here’s how to do these specific takedowns” kind of series. The approach deals with the limited number of logical approaches you can take (arm drag, over-under, etc) and strings them together into a merciless series of attacks that, when mastered, can lead to a very simple and relaxed takedown game.
Michael's unique approach to stand up grappling not only resonated with me much more than what I'm normally taught in class but it also changed my stand up game and moved it to the next level. Now I'm not just guessing what I should do, but have a methodical, well thought out approach on what to do in each situation. Highly recommended course.

Learning to take people down is hard. Most methods rely on lots of rigorous training and a healthy dose of youth and athleticism. For example, trying to hit single leg take downs (when you're 40) is not going to happen very often. Complicating the issue is that the stand up game is often neglected in most BJJ schools. They assume take downs are just going to happen. But they don't. This course is the solution. It's based on very conservative principles that aim to limit the athleticism and mobility of your opponent, while draining his energy at the same time. It's not just for hobbyists, either. Restricting your opponent (vs simply attacking) is a sound strategy that goes far beyond BJJ and works in multiple domains. It's a system you can use into old age and I highly recommend it.
As a 46 year old 3rd degree BJJ black belt who has been training for 26 years, my ability to change levels is not what it once was. Heinz’s traditional approach to positional play in wrestling positions is highly reminiscent of Matt Lindland’s brilliant book “Dirty Boxing”. Heinz approach contains few if any “lifts” when taking people to the mat. We’ve tested it in the gym and it’s fantastic, especially against larger opponents. You won’t regret buying this!
