Really helped my game, this is a great control position
I'm convinced that anything Neil teaches is gold! After working through his cow catcher system for a few weeks, I've been able to use it against a lot of the wrestlers in class and used it for a successful takedown leading to a victory in my last tournament. Stay filthy
Coach Melanson’s techniques are game changers. There is always that one things you’ll add to your game that will frustrate your partners. The instruction is clear and concise. Never feel uneasy about picking up an instructional from Neil Melanson!
Another excellent instructional by Neil. The man is a catch wrestling and grappling legend!
I watched, on physical dvd, the catch wrestling formula ages ago. Now a in-depth look at one of the game changing techniques of the old masterpiece. Great job, terrific instructional
Neil Melanson is awesome. Watching his videos, you can tell that this is a guy that has been obsessed with grappling for a long time. He is an excellent teacher, and is non-dogmatic about the whole thing. He is focused on whatever is most brutally effective, while being highly technical in it's application. I love this, because ultimately this is a martial art, and I want to know how to fight... not just score points in sport. The finishes are great, but he also leans toward what will work in an MMA setting positionally, so there is real carry over and you will often be putting yourself in a good spot for throwing punches too. I don't leave reviews often, but Neil's character and the quality of his instruction compelled me to do so. I hope I can train with him one day. Thanks Neil... keep going hard. You're an inspiration. P.S. I've seen all the other top teachers work also, so I have plenty to compare to. Danaher et al. have their place, but I'm choosing to spend more time learning what Neil is teaching first, and will see what happens after that.
another great instructional from Neil Melanson. this is probably my 6th? instructional and didn’t disappoint. the comedic relief makes it fun while being functional.
Great instructional video!
I had been waiting for a deeper look at cowcatchers for submissions since coming across Coach Neil's Catchwrestling Formula series. The Cowcatcher is a very concise instructional that presents how versatile this hold is, as Neil shows how it links up with some of his brutal guillotine variations and chokes from his Headhunter series, beautiful side triangles, lightning arm bar entries, butterfly sweeps and rolls, standing to ground concepts, as well as quick tips on linkages to backtakes and cradles. It's like a highly effective field manual for cowcatchers instead of a textbook.
Excellent instructions.
You really cannot go wrong buying Neil's instructionals, one of the reasons why I continue to purchase his videos is his focus on the WHY, with the techniques being part of a larger picture focusing on strategy and tactics. The cowcatcher is a brilliant example of this kind of approach, allowing to attack the front headlock/snap down style submissions whilst ensuring that I am always in position to win the scramble and remain on top.
