• I finally learned to escape side control - in no gi

  After two years of training and watching many good videos on escapes, this is the one that made the breakthrough for me. It was the progression through the techniques that made it suddenly all make sense. There is very little gi specific technique here, so the fact that I do no-gi was not important. Note too, the great camera work, and that every instructor wears a different colour gi. Why, why, why is that not the standard for all instructionals? So, yes, I am very glad I bought it.

• Unique Escapes & Excellent Camera & Sound

  I wish all BJJ Fanatics videos used steadycams, AI facial recognition, etc. or just a camera person that has some training. The Great Ecapes has strong camera work and sound. Also, the material feels unique, and it is likely that you will feel as you have gotten a new perspective with this video. Many videos are just a rehash of techniques that most of us have already seem. Chris Haueter is the real deal, and he is worth a watch.

• The Title is Content

  Professor Chris Haueter and Co. created a complete course by dealing with all aspects of escaping. They pointing out the mental state for escaping first.Then they are explaining the importance of relentless adjustments to put yourself into the best possible scenario/spot and then of course the techniques. They are pointing out what the attacker wants to keep or get and howvto deny it. You get revesals and top pin techniques too. Highly recommend!!

  Much respect to the old school way. Chris is full of info, he reminds me of one of my old roommates who was supper passionate about the art. He and his group show some traditional and some unorthodox escapes. The moves are good and the quality of instruction is good. Would be nice to see him do a video at bjj fanatics location.

  Rodessor haueter is an old school legend. Escapes from certain positions are always though. He doesn’t provide fancy tricks, but solutions that work.

• Improve your positional escape skills

  This is a four volume positional escape instructional covering the following positions: side control, Kesa Gatame, mount, side mount (i.e., technical mount), knee ride and back control. The escapes are taught by Chris Haueter with the assistance of a number of his black belts - Melissa Haueter, Jamico "Jay" Elder and Sam Kressin. Instruction and commentary are provided by both Chris Haueter and the other instructor that he is partnered with for that particular technique. In this instructional it is assumed that the opponent may use their positional dominance to punch you in the face, so the escapes generally make an allowance for this risk. The teaching to me is dynamic with the interaction of two people teaching the technique. Techniques are repeated multiple times. A fun bonus is watching Melissa Haueter’s effective and flexible movement and to me an almost magical ability to get armbars. The video and sound quality are fantastic. A handheld stabilised camera has been used so the camera follows the action and the range is excellent. The video is in my opinion professional quality, a cut above the standard for most BJJ instructionals. The available previews are consistent with the whole instructional in terms of presentation and video and sound quality. There are lots of positional escape instructionals that are available and what makes this instructional different is having several different instructors teaching a series of fundamental positional escapes. These instructors display their knowledge, skill and energy and this, plus the format of the instructional kept me engaged with the content. This instructional has a total runtime of 2 hours and 23 minutes.

  This dvd is amazing! The things you learn here should be shown in all academies. First its all about the mechanics and the things you do to teach you to be proactive, not reactive. He discusses concept of connection in detail and not as drawn out as other practitioners do. Chris is a very intelligent grappler and his insights for the details are amazing. All the escapes are realistic and street-oriented and easily transferrable to any grappling. It reminds me of BJJ for the Street. The insights regarding when to move and to have faith in the techniques not only is reassuring with his entertaining style, but applicable to Randori. He is really passionate and entertaining to watch. I am 5'9 and 176lb, since watching this I'm able to reverse engineer and block many of the escapes people try to perform on me.
