Great addition to closed guard game
I like that he teaches gi and no gi versions. Not intuitive
Although it feels like some explanation was lost during editing, overall great. Frustrating, at least for me - had to watch, try, re-watch, re-try. Important to do what Coach Zapata is teaching, versus what seems intuitive at a particular step.
Well organized instructional Clear and concise
Lots of variations on a theme. Broken down in easy to understand steps. Will definitely give you new tools for playing guard.
Very cool
great closed guard dvd
Another instructional that has helped me carve out my game even more, particularly my underhook game which will greatly improve with the shoulder trap series, amazing submissions and sweeps
Great explanations, definitely adding these concepts to my Gi and no gi game!
Effective system I'm been able to implement immediately.
This is a way to get a little higher percentage success rate with your techniques, or (the way I use it most often) just to shut down the offense of bigger stronger dudes. I've already stalemated a few guys who were about to crush me by using this.
If you have already seen a bunch of instructionals and know the standard set of skills, then "The Power Shoulder Trap" will blow your mind. It's a unique and powerful approach to controling your opponent. If you haven't seen a bunch of instructionals already, it won't blow your mind (you'll have no basis for comparison) but you will find a great skill set here.
I think understanding different ways to trap the arm from a closed guard buys you a lot of control and time. This particular video is well thought out and gives the user lots of options regardless of body types. It also is a pretty intuitive addition to bottom guards so the learning curve didn't feel as steep as lots of other ideas.
When I first started in Jiujitsu years ago we would make use of the shoulder trap, we just didn't have a name for it. What's very cool about what Waldo has done is he not only names it but he makes a real study of it. He actually sat down and mapped out all these things that you can do with a shoulder trap. It's very useful. You can sit down, play the video, and pause it after each technique then replicate on a partner or grappling *****, when you become familiar with the material you can then 2x the speed and use the video as a type of training partner as you work on the grappling ***** along side Waldo. Very useful stuff. Waldo does NOT waste any time. He breaks into the material, explains it, and demonstrates it. If Waldo does more material in the future, I'll be sure to watch.
Great instructions if you want to develop your closed guard game
His system is very consistent. It can by greatly used by its own or combined with closed and half guard fundamentals. His focus on explaining the positions itself by getting into great and crucial detail is outstanding!
Waldo's videos are always top notch. Highly recommend getting anything by him. Good clear break down on the basics of the systems.
professor zapata is one of the best around. you can not go wrong with him.
High level of detail and promotes a great strategy for attacking from closed guard!
Cool system and techniques! Excellent concepts and instructor. Works both gi and nogi
I watched this after ”Peak Mount”, another great instructional by Waldo Zapata. He shares a wide array of techniques (sweeps and finishes) building off of the shoulder trap. Easy to follow and useful for both GI and NO-GI.
Great instrumental.
Great instructional packed with lots of detail. I will definitely be drilling this and using it as part of my closed guard game. This is an instructional that connected with me the moment I started watching. Really looking forward to having fun learning these techniques and hitting them in sparring.
Heard about Waldo Zapata from his Z-Grip video with Bernardo and was really intrigued to watch both Z-Grip and Power Shoulder Trap in the span of a day. Really useful for the Closed Guard game. Give this a watch and be prepared to add this to your arsenal instantly! Open guard is fun but we can never forget how useful the Closed Guard can be!
