Extremely thorough. As a recently promoted blue belt, I’ll be picking up things from this video for years to come. Gordon Ryan is an exceptional instructor, and you can definitely where his teaching style comes from. His personal style and personality with the fundamentals of John Dahaner make this instructional invaluable.
Good
Very informative !
This DVD comes with around 10 hours of instruction, followed by 25 minutes of rolling and an hour of rolling commentary / analysis. The DVD is split into four scenarios of guard retention: Seated vs Tight Passing, Seated vs Loose Passing, Supine vs Loose Passing, and Supine vs Tight Passing. Gordon goes over all the main positions you'll see him cover in his guard passing DVD. THIS DVD DOES NOT COVER TURTLE & TURTLE ESCAPES. This is my personal favorite of Gordon's DVDs. There is so much gold in here with relatively little repetition or rambling. I saw immediate changes in my game and rates of guard retention against talented opponents after going through the DVD. Where I do fail in practice, I understand what went wrong in my rolls on both a general and specific sense, or at least to a much greater degree than I had before. I recommend pairing this with his seated & supine guard DVDs.
Great instructional!
Great instructional video!
There are so many small details and critical concepts Gordon calls out in this series. Each day I'm putting them into action and seeing results. Thanks Gordon!
I love his instructionals. I Love how he takes to the time to create an entire system, not just a series of moves. Also, there is always an underlying theme allowing us to be innovative as long as we stick to the entire basic ideas of each position. I really appreciate that he takes the time to put these out and is a perfectionist. He actually has a wonderful format and then a qucik summary after each section. I actually will only buy his videos from now on. Head and shoulders better than anyone else.
Extremely helpful. Keeping concepts simple, repetitive and thus seems easier to burn into the muscle memory. Thanks for all the work on this, already know this is going to change and speed up the progress in my game for the long term (after many years of working all this info in)
As with every Gordon Ryan products, this one is excellent. It will keep you busy for years.
Man this series is gold, it built my confidence so much, can't wait to return to the mats. His teacher John also did a great job on his passing instructional but i think Gordon really nailed it. Great job i hope you get well soon cuz you are brilliant on and off the mat. :muscle::muscle:👍👍
Excellent content and unbelievably comprehensive! About halfway through the third module (4hrs into about 12 hrs of content) and it's already worth the money. Already seeing results on the mat with this fundamental approach.
There really aren’t words to explain this! I recently started learning jiu jitsu here in Canada and then we weren’t allowed to train anymore due to lockdowns etc. I bought this series as well as another by Gordon Ryan and the content is amazing. I went from being passed very often to the same people saying, “Hey, you are really hard to pass!” When people that have competed against purple belts. Ryan is a master at breaking stuff down and making it super easy to understand! I just get the concepts even being a total beginner. I would be training with blue belts and be like here try that position on me that nobody else could get out of, and I get out! Then I have to become the teacher. It’s hilarious! Anyway, I’ll cut it short by saying great job and keep them coming! I looked for a part two to this series but couldn’t find one, so I am assuming there isn’t one yet? Thanks again!!
Whether you like Gordon Ryan or not, he is a very technical, well-spoken BJJ teacher. By watching his video course and applying JUST ONE small thing you learn, your BJJ will improve for sure. I highly recommend it no matter if you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced grappler!
Gordon Ryan is the man
