If you’re a white or colored belt then defense is probably the fastest way for you to improve your game. Knowing what you should be fighting to accomplish in negative situations is more than half the battle. More signal less noise, economy of energy and motion. Those come from knowing the battles you should be fighting. Whittier gives you the task focus and the specific details to win these battles. Excellent instruction. If you don’t know it, you should.
Excellent defensive jiujitsu instructional. These are the tried and true methods of defense that work against tough opposition if practiced enough. Most schools spend more time on offense and neglect these important details. Do yourself a favor and buy this. You won’t be disappointed.
Applicable escapes that are supported by tried and true concepts.
Great content.
Refines my understanding of mount escape techniques!
Concepts lead to techniques - self defense and art/sport based approach. Professor S. W. always closes this gaps and connects where these connections are sensible and splits them where it they need to be. Always worth to invest(igate)!
This is the best introduction to the knee ride that I've seen.
I’m a big fan of BJJ Fanatics videos by Danaher and Lachlan Giles. I’ve been mostly watching those two since I started Juijuitsu. I heard Mr Whittier on a BJJ podcast and was intrigued by his different approach to learning based on first principles. I watched the whole thing straight thru and it made a difference in my game that night in training. I’ve barely scratched the surface but the slight shift in conceptual outlook and remembering a few highly relevant details instead of trying to recall a specific technique in various situations discussed here seems to make techniques emerge without my consciously recalling them. Which oddly seems both faster and easier. It’s tough to explain but I hope this helps anyone considering buying this. In my opinion the value here is exponentially greater than the cost.
This "first principles" approach is a refreshing way to approach jiu jitsu. Also, like all of the greatest lessons from bjj, it can also be applied into our daily lives.
Coach Whittier provides a depth of fundamentals you can build on and transcends the current trends. I have his previous series and they are not outdated. The new material is evolutionary refinement not a replacement. Highly recommended.
