This is the fundamental concepts you need to know as a beginner.
This is easy to follow, clear, and brings together all the different stuff you need to know as a white belt.
Solid information covers basics good
As always, Coach Whittier does an excellent job breaking down what you need to know. If you are less than a year into practicing BJJ you should watch these videos.
Heavy on verbal explanation but excellent details for beginners in Jiu-Jitsu.
good instructional for new to jiu-jitsu players. Full of fundamentals necessary for development.
Lots of little details that seem basic but can really advance your game
The phrase "position before submission" gets tossed around a lot for BJJ, but most instructionals still focus on technique - specific escapes, sweeps, or submissions. This is one of the few videos I've found that goes in depth on proper body mechanics and positioning to maximize the effectiveness of any given position.
One good teacher who gets you thinking about concepts
it shows posture a lot of basics real good to learn bjj
Stephen Whittier's other videos go into the weeds and offer a lot of great content. This video is the summarized version of everything else, yet the value of his insights remain intact. I really liked the video. This is the cold hard fundamentals of jiu jitsu. Everything else is just flash and noise.
Interesting concepts, that are well known but generally overseen and underexplained.
Professor Stephen Whittier offers great concepts and formulas to control distance and pisition to attack out of a safe spot or to keep you safe launch your escapes. He also gives great advice to training methodology. Highly recommend!
Good fundamentals that are applicable for all levels of grappler. Instructioal for beginners and a refresher for experienced grappler
Helpful concepts that allow you to progress consistently, especially as a beginner! great for building fundamentals.
Great instructional!
this is a great dvd for learning the concepts that underpin fundamental BJJ so as to get better at Jiu Jitsu faster and for a longer time without a plateau
Whittier's approach to BJJ is unique and I found this video very helpful.
This is very good material for any level, but especially for beginners.
Really helpful for integrating the techniques im learning in class and how to understand the concepts of BJJ and make progress from week to week
As someone who is over 40 and analytically minded, I really appreciate The systematic approach taught here.
...because it deserves some praise! Keep in mind, I've got other instructionals from Mr. Whittier as well, so I just might be a tad biased. But it's the "accelerator blueprint" that I've liked the most so far. Why? Well, his stuff is universally useful, but the crucial part of the AccBlu that I like is him focusing on connection, principles, and maintaining position, instead of "do this and you submit him for sure, guaranteed". Not that there isn't space for both, quite the contrary - there's plenty of submission-focused instructionals and I've got some of them. But if I have to take one of keeping position and attempting a submission, I've found that it pays to keep the position. And that's the biggest challenge for a white belt like me. Also, keep in mind that Mr. Whittier mentions at one point that in his gym, submissions are relegated to the rank of less important moves, but his students still hit them during competitions. Why? Because if you can keep the position and isolate an extremity, the submission often becomes a lot easier! So in a roundabout way, this instructional should help your submission rate as well. Also, the way the material is presented (as a process, not as a set of instructions) is top notch. I wish more instructional/instructors presented the material in the same way! ...I think that should be enough for a review.
Easy to understand. Presented at an appropriate level for beginners. Fundamentals of positions appropriate for all levels.
Yup! It all starts with understanding the proper concept of things. A must!!!
Such a good instructional to understand concepts that often fall in between the cracks
