Very good, now i'm not afraid any more of being on bottom in side control. My only regret is that the knee on belly escape is missing in this DVD ! :) I think the best technique is the harpoon sweep, I make it every time on everybody ;) thanks !
Objective of this instructional The objectives of the instructional include to firstly learn how to survive on the bottom and then learn a broad range of escapes from side control, scarf hold and reverse scarf hold. With the escapes taught in this instructional, there is an emphasis on the importance of learning to use your legs (i.e., paraphrasing the Professor - be like an animal that uses all of its limbs rather than predominately relying on your arms) and understanding the mechanics of the escape. Professor Pedro Sauer also discusses elements of his philosophy of Jiu Jitsu, particularly as it relates to encouraging longevity and recognising that as you age you will not be able to rely on your strength to defeat your opponents. Contents Volume 1 (49 minutes and 8 chapters including the introduction) covers: advice on an approach to your Jiu Jitsu to allow you to grow old while continuing to train (e.g., be playful, understand the mechanics of techniques, share knowledge, teach, be challenged and be creative, let your body be soft and accommodate your opponent’s body, understand Jiu Jitsu including the basics, fight for the next move, etc); staying comfortable while on the bottom in side control by correctly positioning and engaging your body, noting that there is some particularly good advice in this section; upper and lower framing against the opponent; and four escapes from cross-face are taught. The escapes strongly rely on using your legs and one ends with re-guarding your opponent, another with a mount and two techniques finish with submissions. The first escape taught (i.e., Shoelace hook guard recovery) is a reliable low energy escape that I think will really help many people that are currently struggling with side control escapes. Volume 2 (48 minutes and 17 chapters) covers: escapes from cross-face (x 13 techniques); wrestlers pin (x 2 techniques) and the position where the opponent has one hand over your far shoulder and the other next to your inside hip (i.e., blocking your hip, x 2 techniques). Where an escape involves controlling an arm many of the techniques finish with an armbar. Volume 3 (41 minutes and 12 chapters) covers: escapes including variations to escape techniques in response to your opponent’s actions from positions where the opponent has one hand over your far shoulder and the other next to your inside hip (i.e., blocking your hip) or gripping a leg (x 9 techniques) and several counter attacks commencing from side control bottom (i.e., kimura reversal to an armbar, paper cutter choke counter that ends with a wristlock or a sweep ending with a reverse kimura, and a sneaky armbar). Volume 4 (55 minutes and 13 chapters) covers: escapes from scarf hold (x 7 techniques); wrestlers hold (x 1 technique); and reverse scarf hold (x 5 techniques). As with the Professor’s Mount instructional, picture and sound quality are good. A single camera has been used and the range is excellent, as you are close to the action and can easily see the details of the technique. The available previews are consistent with the whole instructional. Professor Sauer is clearly very knowledgeable. As with what I experienced with his Mount instructional, the Professor’s instructions and demonstrations are clear. The Professor’s style is engaging and he maintains a good pace throughout the instructional. As is the norm with BJJ instructionals the techniques are repeated multiple times with different angles. In summary, in my opinion this is a really worthwhile instructional. I own several side control escape instructionals and this would be equal first with the John Danaher’s Pins instructional as it relates to the topic - side control escapes, noting that the Pins instructional covers more than just side control escapes. Professor Pedro Sauer shares and emphasises the details that make his techniques work. The techniques in this instructional don’t rely on strength, but rather angles, connections, leverage and the use of your legs. The techniques that I have learned from this instructional work. The total length of the instructional is 3 hours and 13 minutes long.
The only way it gets better then this would be in person with the Master himself:fire:
Everything was awesome! I have used them moves many times and they don't require much strength at all. Thats whats jiu jitsu is all about.
Master Sauer is a genius. Anything about jiu-jitsu he shares is gold. Listen, learn, and practice. On a side note his black belt assistant for this video is one of my instructors at my academy. You can imagine my surprise, not having known that Dave Porter was in assist on this video. So proud to be learning from Master Sauer online, and soon once again from Dave, in person, whom we all miss. Worth every penny.
I’ve been using the techniques that I learned and they’ve been working!!! Of course I need to practice but for the majority of the time, my opponent doesn’t counter and I escaped.
Master Sauer is literally the greatest Jiu-Jitsu instructor in the World today. If you buy this video you will find out.
I'm stealing this quote from Mr. Keith Owen because I don't think that anyone could have described professor's Sauer jiu jitsu any better. Professor's Sauer approach to the art is always simplicity and efficiency.
If I could give this more stars I would. Very detailed, easy to follow and the material is outstanding. Pedro Sauer is truly a Master Technician. More of this please...
Professor Sauer breaks down and demos a crazy number of options from bottom side control in this series. I personally was amazed both by the new details I picked up on some of my favorite techniques as well as the plethora of escapes and reversals that are entirely new to me. I highly recommend it for any belt level?
Pedro has more understanding of leverage and simplicity than anyone I've come across. A lot of it is shared in this video series. These concepts and techniques made me comfortable against some of the toughest training partners and I think everyone should become familiar with this content.
Everything Master Pedro teaches is gold. The depth of understanding and details is truly impressive and he breaks down all of the movement in a way that has made me think “why didn’t I know or ever see that before” multiple times throughout his instructions. There are quite a few details and techniques I have never seen, and I have been training for over 25 years. Huge thank to Master Pedro for sharing so much knowledge. It is easy to see why he is so highly regarded around the world. I DEFINITELY recommend getting his instructional videos. Wow. I hope you will have him make more of these.
