• A Must-Have for 10th Planet Fans

  This is a great jiu-jitsu video, especially for anyone interested in the 10th Planet system. I’ve purchased many instructionals over the years, but this one easily ranks in my top 3. The techniques are clearly explained, well-structured, and directly applicable to no-gi rolling. Highly recommend for both beginners and advanced grapplers looking to sharpen their 10th Planet game.

• Great Positional Instruction, Light on Submissions

  This was actually a very good series well worth watching. I gave it 4 stars because while it does a great job teaching how to get to the rubber guard, it doesn’t go into submissions from there. That said, the instruction on entries and positioning is really solid. For me, the truck series was the most helpful, especially since I already use the lockdown in my game. There’s still a lot of great content across the DVD, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I learned. If you’re looking to understand the mechanics of getting into rubber guard, lockdown, or the truck, this is a very helpful resource. Just know that it focuses more on entries and control than finishing moves.

• Good compilation of entries

  The name speaks for the instructional. It's about entries into 10th Planet signature positions. I kinda deplore the lack of submissions or follow ups but the Information on the entries is very helful if you wanna introduce some 10thPlanet into your JiuJitsu.

  I'm an older guy just now trying to get into jiu jitsu. The information out there can be very overwhelming. These videos provide an excellent introduction for anyone wanting to either enter into no-gi jiu jitsu like 10th Planet or to transition from a more traditional version into this style.

• Four key 10th Planet positions – with a focus on entries to these positions

  This instructional is designed for people who are interested in getting into the “traditional 10th Planet style of BJJ”. Specifically, its primary purpose is to assist you to gain entry to the rubber guard, lockdown, truck and spider guard. The instructional has a total runtime of 1 hour and 39 minutes. Rubber Guard coverage commences with an introduction starting from closed guard and describing what you might do depending on the position of the opponent’s upper body – upright, intermediate and low (i.e., posture has been broken). Generally, the path is to first break down the opponent’s posture and get their arm to the mat to start to play the rubber guard position. Entries are taught from closed guard, half guard, when you have escaped back control, from the mount top and from standing for MMA applications. As part of the entries taught in the instructional there is a focus on using the overhook. Lockdown coverage also starts with an introduction to the technique and why you should use it. The stomp and super stomp from half guard is taught and takes you back to the butterfly guard then to closed guard or creates the opportunity for a sweep to mount. Getting to the lockdown position the paths taught include from the Z guard and X guard. The submission taught from lockdown is the arm triangle. The truck coverage commences with an introduction to the technique including pulling them into you, rolling with them and using the truck to gain their back. Principles taught include control, finishes and counters from the opponent. Getting to the truck from mount, side control (i.e., top and bottom), and from the X guard are taught. Counters to the truck are taught including flipping the truck, which is where you escape from the opponent’s truck and put them into your own truck position. Spiderweb commences with an introduction to the technique including how to best use your limbs to secure the submission. Transitions to spiderweb are taught using the deep hook (i.e., elbow to elbow) going from back control and the reverse (i.e., from spiderweb and returning to back control), from turtle, from mount and from two versions from closed guard with one utilising a “flower” sweep and the other a spin under variant using your shin in front of their neck. Zach Maslany is an enthusiastic, energetic and knowledgeable instructor. He speaks and demonstrates clearly. Techniques are repeated from different angles to the camera. The instructional has been filmed with a fixed camera. Overall, the film quality and sound is good. There are no issues with the microphone. There are, however, several occasions where there are short moments when the camera is out of focus and times where there is some unnecessary movement of the camera. The camera movement issue is evident in the preview (Part 2 Chapter 4 – Arm Triangle). In summary, if you wanting to get into 10th Planet style BJJ this is a great instructional to purchase. It is an overview of four key 10th planet positions plus reliable entries into these positions.
