Another great instructional from Melanson. Practical, accessible and brutal. Started to apply it right away and already find some success
There is so much good content in here for advanced practitioners to work into their own games, quite a lot of which is over my head. Still I think it is the slightly-advanced beginner with maybe a year or so under their belt who stands to benefit the most from this product -- so long as they are wise enough to focus on the simpler techniques and especially the "get ups." I've noticed that for most of the white belts who have stuck around, including myself, as our defensive skills advance we tend to find ourselves in the knee-shield half-guard position a great deal -- especially when we recover guard -- but once we get there we're stuck. All we can do is run defense and hope not to get passed again (usually in vain). The "Ground Marshal Half Guard" is a great way for lower belts like ourselves to turn a purely defensive, hope-and-pray-the-clock-runs-out position into a deadly attacking position. It also teaches you how to bail on the position and stand up (an often overlooked skill) when things go bad. Both of these skills, particularly the second, are invaluable to progress. The only potential downside I can see with giving this material to lower belts is that it will take a little discernment and discipline on the student's part to focus on the simpler, less glamorous skills like the "get ups" rather than all of the very, very cool submission chains. It's very easy to get enamored with slick techniques you don't yet have the chops to pull off safely and consistently. That caveat aside, I'd 100% recommend this product to anyone, especially white belts who constantly find themselves stuck in knee-shield half-guard.
If I could only choose one guard series to study this would be it. This and Cradle of filth are my personal favorite from coach Neil’s amazing library of knowledge. Buy this asap if you wanna start giving dudes in your gym trouble from the bottom. :fire::fire::fire:
Concise and fascinating
Love his stuff!
great creative ideas that helped me a lot.
Neil is the man. His style is really well explained in this dvd. I’ve always been interested in catch approach to nogi so I gave this dvd a shot. I really enjoyed the break down and Neil is also entertaining instructor with his explanation and delivery
Neil Melanson is my favorite instructor on this site. He is extremely technical, but also very innovative. Every instructional will have several concepts you can implement immediately, this one is no different. Definitely a good buy.
I've had this instructional for so long, it was one of the first I got by Neil. But I'm revisiting it again after a while just to start working half guard stuff again. This really does have it all, great concepts on how to play the position and the techniques are just great. I really believe if your gym doesn't have Neil fans or it does have Neil fans but they don't own this instructional, you will catch guys with stuff they've not seen before. I'm actually now starting to hope Neil does a part two down the line. So with black Friday round the corner if you've not got this yet, add it to the wish list, you won't regret it. Stay filthy.
Everything Neil Melanson puts out is tremendous and this is no exception. I love his style of teaching. I love the content. I can't say enough good things about him and his instructionals.
Filthy as always!
This video really broadened my horizons with half guard. You should buy this.
Top notch on all tactics and techniques
Love these filthy techniques. Own everything neil produces.
This is some funky half guard! I’ve been playing around with a majority of this video for about a year. The cross grip get up is something I use in almost every roll if I need to bail out or slow someone down. If you have a wrestling background I think this style of half guard may feel more comfortable for you, as it did for me.
Love this guy
Neil is hands down one of the best instructor out there. a must have for every half guard player, the concepts he teaches go beyond the techniques he shows.
Noel Melansons approach to teaching this position is amazing I can not say enough good about him If you haven’t checked out his content then you must He is game changing
Neil’s half guard system is brilliant. The entries and grips help weaken or prevent your training partner’s whizzer and d’arce chokes. So it seems like one of the safer half guard systems. The moves are powerful, great sweeps, guillotines and even an a bar from half guard. His teaching style adds greatly. He is relaxed and level headed
Melanson’s no-nonsense, outside-the-box approach to grappling and the half guard game is awesome, and his teaching style makes it easy to wrap your head around his killer techniques.
Awesome content as always!
Unique, adaptive and exceptional approach to 1/2 guard. Coach Neil always brings the good stuff.
Solid. Worth a look if you want an adaptable 1/2.
What Can i Say? Neil's concepts and positions are great, it's helping me lot with my game! He is a **** of a teacher! Dope moves and submissions. Such a great content. Good at any level. I highly Recommend any of Neil's DVD.
I like his stuff. Direct and to the point.
