• Great self defense course that covers psychological concepts

  Normally the video courses of self defense doesn't covers this important part of the self defense, that is key if you want deescalate situations before they go worse.

  W. D. created an instructional which gives you a very good overall idea of how you should act to general sray safe. He starts by focusing on your own apperance and leads you to how to defend yourself before and after the first physical contact to stay safe and escape without the necessacity of striking in most situations. Highly recommend!

• Great stuff - good balance of theory and practical examples

  Great instructional. I had the privilege to meet Wim in person and attend one of his sessions. As in a live meeting in this video he included a lot of practical examples, which with his ability to teach people of all ages gives a great result. The techniques of communication and behavior in difficult situations were in majority really something new for me. I enjoyed every minute of the video as well as live session.

  Wim is an great Teacher and knows about what he speaks. As an Cop i have to say, there are a lot of things you need as an zivilian but also usefull for law enforcement! This ist defenetly 5 of 5 Stars!

• Innovative while simultaneously going back to BJJ’s roots

  For me a martial art should be based on general principles, work for self defense, and tested in combat sports. That is a lot to ask for. Wim Deputter managed somehow to do all this in his approach to BJJ & put it on video. The Mirroring Principle is getting more and more acknowledged by the BJJ community as THE underlying principle of all BJJ techniques. It teaches you timing and pressure. The when and how. The Mirroring Principle has been proven in competition. Wim is a former JJIF World Champion, former MMA fighter and a grappling competitor who is mostly active in the European scene. He tested his stuff in deep waters. Now, he demonstrates in this video for the first time how he uses his knowledge for self defenses. Not only technique is explained. He goes in detail on which training methods work. Wim also talks about the often forgotten pre-fight sequences that occur and how to de-escalate them. I strongly recommend this video if you are looking for an approach for self defense. But if you are already a grappler worried about how to use your mat skills in the real world, this is a must have.

• Great Introduction

  An excellent class for any beginner. Rather than simply going over the most fundamental techniques, this lesson helped me tackle my further BJJ training with the correct mindset. Often martial arts trainers (purposefully?) confuse the training and application of the martial art for sport or self defense. This lessons differentiates between the two clearly and gives introductory insights on both, helping a beginner like me to better train with my main goals in sight.
