F. G. shows how to not get pinned after the opponent passed your legs and to recompose guard, reverse or sweep and directly transfer into advantageous positions and if course how to escape from beeing totally pinned. This instructional covers escaping from any common pin and it's variations. Highly recommend!

Professor Gurgel is not only an outstanding champion but a gifted teacher and communicator. The details and explanations for each escape are phenomenal. I am currently nursing a muscle injury and took this amazing opportunity to learn from one of the best teachers and coaches, no rolling to heal but practicing with my Smarty grappling *****. Looking forward to apply these escapes on the mat! Big thank you to Professor Gurgel!

This instructional teaches positional escapes from side control, kesa gateme, north-south, mount, turtle, back, knee on belly and half guard bottom. These escapes are marketed as old school BJJ escapes (i.e. proven, efficient and effective). Fabio Gurgel is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu 6th degree black belt and he has written two BJJ books and created a range of instructionals. This is the second Fabio Gurgel instructional that I have purchased. I have also bought and reviewed the Side Control Attacks and Submissions instructional. This instructional consists of four volumes and comprises 48 escape techniques. The first point to note is this is an instructional that cuts to the chase, as there is not a lot of coverage about concepts or theories or teaching you how to move (e.g. bridge and hip escape), but rather the focus is on the actual escape techniques. The approach is about understanding how you are pinned and then selecting the most appropriate escape. I have bought a couple of instructionals on positional escapes and in this instructional there are multiple practical escape techniques that I have not seen before. Fabio is a great teacher. Consistent with the side control submissions instructional Fabio presents well and he is easy to understand. He demonstrates a technique several times including from different angles and then he performs the technique at “real/full speed”. He highlights the important details that make an escape technique work. To make the movements easier to see and understand Fabio is wearing a blue Gi and his uke a white Gi. Sound and picture quality are good. The angles of the technique displayed are appropriate. I like the techniques that Fabio has chosen to include in this instructional, as they are practical, logical and effective. If you need to grow your ability to escape positional pins then this represents a good buy. The instructional is 2 hours and 55 minutes long.

Fabio Gurgel is an excellent instructor! This instructional is simply evidence that his team has so many successful gold medalists. The techniques are shown stepwise and from logical transitions. Now I know how to escape my opponents regardless of position and balance! Thank you Fabio Gurgel!
