This is the perfect first video for someone starting BJJ. It covers all major positions--both on offense and defense--so that someone with less than a year of experience can easily understand two to three basic moves from the most common situations. Bernardo typically shows each technique about three times and points out different, critical details each time. I would highly recommend this +5 hour video to anyone with less than 50 hours of training experience.
The gym i go to never showed me a foundation to BJJ - this instructional helped ease my way into bjj and improved my game
Excellent instructional focused on the fundamental techniques for BJJ. Really helps in laying a foundation on which to build with more advanced techniques as time progresses. Thanks, Bernardo!!! Excellent work. OSS!!
I have recently started teaching a fundamentals class for our newest students at my gym, and this video along with Prof. Faria's Fundamentals video has been great. For teaching basic guards, subs, and escapes, this course is exactly what I needed to get the details down and to find a way to explain/teach each concept/technique. I am also tightening up my own fundamentals at the same time. This is a great buy. Well worth the price !
Great fundamental instructional
Love video
Really great instruction
Perfect for beginners and also the more advanced as a refresher
Excellent video for beginners, well summarized and concepts are explained sharply
Great instructional to work on your basics of BJJ. Bernado is very clear on his details, Would reccomend to everybody.
Slow concise instructions, great for beginners. Learned a lot.
This instructional - Foundations of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by Bernardo Faria - is an excellent instructional for both beginner and more experienced BJJ practitioners. This is a very generous six part video series with over 5 hours of great instructional material from 5x BJJ Black Belt World Champion, Professor Bernardo Faria. It presents the fundamentals of BJJ, which will help develop a very strong base and foundation for BJJ practitioners. I have a number of Professor Faria's instructionals and find them all to be excellent. In fact I had already purchased this instructional previously, and then I saw it bundled with another of Professor Faria's videos - Introduction To BJJ by Bernardo Faria - so I got it in that bundle too when I purchased them together. This will be a very good addition to any practitioners personal library.
This is an excellent way to improve your fundamentals, and give you a toolbox to work with when you start rolling. This will improve your escapes, sweeps and finishes with the ABC’s of jiu-jitsu
So many tips and tricks in this video, really help progress my game and strategy on the mat
Great dvd! Will definitely purchase more.
Bernardo explains in detail these basics that you need to learn when starting out in BJJ. The techniques he presents is as basic as it can get. This and his Escapes from Anywhere DVD is perfect for white belts/beginners.
I am a white belt and this instructional really helped me to learn basic moves from most positions. It made me more confident knowing I had at least 1 move from all positions.
Foundations of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by Bernardo Faria. Huge honor for me :) to review this. This was my main go to series, glad I had it from the beginning :)
I am a blue belt but sometime I forget the basics or skip some steps. The scope of these videos is very wide and you will find all you need. Moreover, I am french and sometime it is difficult for me to understand the details. But it is not the case with Bernardo. He speaks enough slowly and everybody can understand with few english knowledges.
Buying this instructional was the real help for my first months in BJJ and it remains helpful after the year of constant training for almost a year by now. The huge variety of BJJ techniques may be pretty intimidating for a beginner. But with these videos one can follow up professor's instructions after the class and develop one's first game plans based on these basic but pretty effective moves that encompass the whole basic curriculum and some of the Faria's not that basic (but accessible for the beginners though) signature moves like the lapel single leg from the knee shield. If you're new to the sport and want to find a single instructional that may be helpful for you - this is THE ONE.
Good tutorial and great explanations
very easy to watch, and able to take the knowledge given in this Video and apply in class during live rolling sessions. These are things that all white belts should watch. It helped me advance to blue belt.
Great details on a wide range of positions. Very useful for me to drill and continue to round out my game.
Great for building your foundation whether you are starting out or looking to add fine details to your current game. Lots of content that will help anyone improve.
A really good instructional video which covers a lot of basics.
