Just getting through the first section - it's extremely thorough and informative. I like the applications for gi and nogi.
This is great for people would like this style of guard, very detail and lengthy explanation. A little too long ;)
Has made the biggest difference to my game out of any instructional
Thanks to this DVD, I am now able to stop attacks by people with more experience than me! You will learn the points that must be observed in guard retention.
1. Lachlan Giles is the best instructor around 2. Guard retention is probably the single most important skill to master for all levels of BJJ (probably alongside escapes) 3, You get more than 20 hours of content covering basic concepts, systematic concepts, and specific guard pass responses, including live drilling and commentary 4. You invest in something that you will be using for most of your BJJ journey. Even if you were only focusing on this series, it would take you a couple of years to digest everything he shows. In full disclosure, I don't think I've even been through half of the material he shows here, and my guard retention skills have skyrocketed already.
Absolutely loved every second. Being a big guy this helped my guard retention so much!
This is by far my number 1 favorite instructional. I have been consistently watching and using this material for 6 months now and I can’t imagine how my guard retention will look in a year, two years, three… etc. This is by far THE BEST instructional for any skill set and I will always come back to it! Thanks Lachlan and Ariel! My openly regret is not buying it sooner!!!
Another great Instructional!
My guard was ****, got passed constantly and could never get off any attacks. Feel really comfortable in my guard now, and getting off attacks consistently. Still a lot to learn but really loved this series, going back over it to troubleshoot and never not learning! Probably what helped me get my blue belt
I debated this purchase for days because of the cost. I picked it up and have never looked back. There’s a LOT of lessons in this instructional and I’ve only been through a small part but have already learned so much. Worth every penny
lots of content, really well explained. It simply does not get better than this
The retention of the guard changes epoch-making
Content is very good. Overall only complaints are with navigating the instructional as chapter titles don’t always show up properly.
Insanely detailed and thorough look at guard retention.
Outstanding instructional, the summary presentation of core concepts in the early chapters makes this material immediately useful. For anyone working on developing a better open guard this is a must have. The breadth and depth of details covered in the later chapters make this a useful reference for troubleshooting your technique after each training session.
Instructionals from Lachlan Giles are hard to beat — awesome details, tons of material, and great price. This one covers almost everything you need to know about guard retention.
Amazing
This series increases understanding of Jiu Jitsu significantly.
Great content and details!
Locky is among the very best instructors on BJJ Fanatics - what sets his instructionals apart is their organization. In my opinion, his are the very best at delivering the content from the screen to your brain and body. The presentation is pragmatic and efficient on a level that I have yet to find elsewhere.
I bought only Around n Under the Legs. It was great value for money purchase. It has many hours of excellent instructions from 2 instructors not 1. Many techniques are carefully covered and a great summary provided at critical junctures to recap what has been taught. U can tell they have put in a great deal of effort into this video. Very well structured to facilitate learning. Plus they included footage of rolling to illustrate how the techniques were applied in practice. Impressed.
Lachlan does an excellent job of addressing the heuristics while not skipping the details in each technique. Buy this set if you want to work towards an impassable guard!
has really helped me with my guard retention, and has a huge amount of techniques for different situations/pass attempts. gets you out of late stage places you usually would not be able to recover from
As a primarily guard player, I thought this instructional would be good to elevate my guard as I wanted to decrease the amount of times it gets passed. This instructional really opened up my game. As with all of Lachlan's instructionals, it is loaded with content and goes really deep in to the majority of ways people will try and pass, what their goals are, how to prevent them from getting there and what to do when you get yourself in to bad positions or your opponent is close to passing. The system has a lot of leg pummeling and some inverting but nothing that i think the majority of people couldn't do. It took a lot to try and start implementing since it was quite different than what my guard originally was but once I started recognizing how to move my body in the ways shown it made my guard way more tricky to pass and let me recover a lot better. This is a great complement to his no gi open guard set. That one is more attacking the back, leg entanglements, and sweep heavy, while this one is almost strictly recovery. So this is good if you can't get your attacks off, are getting beat, are getting stuck, or if your guard is getting passed in general. If you are getting your guard passed and want to have a complete trouble shooting system or reference, this is great information to refer to. It is best used in conjunction with training where you focus on positions you are in or struggling with and watching those specific content areas, then as you get those down expand to different sections or find new problems to solve with your guard. It is a ton of information and greatly explained with theory, strategies, and actual live rolling examples of how it happens. If you are looking for an attacking sweeping series some of his other stuff is better suited.
I tried guard retention before but my guard would just be smashed in a second. After watching the first part of this instructional I feel my training partners are super frustrated trying to pass my guard.
