amazing !!!! eyes opening detais!!!
This video has all the content about open guard. It also deals with leg lock entries in detail, so I recommend you to watch them if you are interested
just watching this video instantly improved my game
Great for all belt levels. John Danaher does a fantastic job exploring the fundamentals and "whys" of open guard play, but also teaches you how to transition into attacks. Fantastic video!
This gives a great insight on how to have high level guard retention, and how to use those retention skills to go from defense to offense.
If you are looking to improve your open guard, look no further. The guru himself will show you the way!
Instantly levelled up my open guard.
Great improvement to my guard after watching this instructional. Danaher thoroughly outlines key concepts, theories, and movements essential to guard play before jumping into their application through techniques. This is a great way to learn guard retention and attacks.
An excellent foundation for your open guard, maybe not for complete beginners though. Requires serious time investment and note that it's PART 1.
As usual with Danaher, the technical content is simply the best. In big categories, the instructional covers these topics: Gripping — 10% Kuzushi from seated guard (The Dynamic Energy Theory) — 15% Guard Retention — 25% Leglock entries — 40% Unnecessary talking — 10% :) The only critique I have is that wrestle-ups are not covered. They are not even really mentioned. Of course, I understand that Danaher has that planned as a separate DVD but just know that without wrestle-up skills your open guard is not complete. Annoying that wrestle-ups are shown in the intro section A LOT but it's not in the actual content. As with most Danaher videos, strongly recommended BUT to those who are ready to commit to this as a serious long-term project. I would specifically point out the Dynamic Energy Theory as a treasure.
This completely changed how I play open Guard, the amount of detail is amazing and I find myself coming back to it months after watching it to re-learn from it again and again.
Really helped me retain guard
Excellent theory and instruction!
Changed the way I play open guard.
Top notch instruction. Clear and easy to understand. Formatted perfectly.
Really great, showing awsome concepts.
Has been helpful to show different ways to get into the legs. A lot to figure out but this will be a tool to reference for a long time.
John ability to break down the smallest of task in a way that day 1 white belt - experience black belt can understand is second to none. Highly recommend for anyone looking to improve their open guard.
Love john. He breaks down the technique s and teaches me them concepts i need to further my bjj
Many instructors can explain what the technique is, some the how to perform it, but very few can explain the why it works -- and none explain why it works better than Mr. Danaher.
I mean what more do I have to say. he can break down anything and everything.
I got this mostly to expand my game. Become more aware of what open guard player are trying to do. It is overall a good video teaching how wrestle with your legs better.
Well structured, clearly explained and instantly applicable. Effective and easy to apply in the gym.
