As usual, he gives a detailed explanation of WHY one should do/not do a particular move and spends a lot of time talking about concepts that are applicable to many situations. Wish this was all I focused on for the first 6 months.
Learn a lot and it has helped my game.
I wasn't sure if I should buy this one or not, but after watching it, I started to dream about how good I might be if I've learned this since I was white belt. I highly recommend this one.
As always, the master delivers and articulates movements like no other. John Danaher's real gift is his eye for detail and his ability to make the complex relatable. Above all, you learn the "why" to a technique, allowing you to defend it or transfer it to another situation. Excellent!
Very in depth and detailed and I also liked how it was in close caption.
Turns out I didn’t understand bridging OR shrimping! Tons of great stuff in this instructional but the bridging and shrimping details have affected how I approach the techniques taught in class at my academy. I am amazed by JD.
When I first went through this set, I was blown away by how little about fundamental defense I had been taught up until that point.
Awesome set of videos. Really like how John breaks down the fundamentals and concepts.
John really breaks down the fundamentals in a scientific way that is understandable and approachable. He provides you the tools that work and preaches the ABC’s or important step that will help you improve.
The majority of time when starting BJJ is spent under pins and attempting to escape them. Without learning to properly escape at will, the rest of your game is stunted because you are unable to attempt anything else. This instructional will help you expedite the time it takes you to learn to escape and therefore will speed up the rest of your progression in Jiu Jitsu. The level of detail on each concepts gives you enough techniques and ideas to work on for months at the beginner level.
I have been working this material for over a year now, and it has been an absolute game changer!
Professor Danaher Clearly few fundamental concepts with an unbelievable level of deepening. I wish I had them at the beginning of my journey.
Excellent. An encyclopedia in this area of BJJ.
John's students have said that the basis for their success is their belief in their defense and escapes. Watching this makes it clear why. John's instructions are clear and detailed. He also gives mutilple options for just about every position covered. There were a couple volumes that felt like information was being repeated almost verbatim and I wish a couple more positions had been covered but otherwise I don't have anything bad to say. It's worth investing in.
J.D always states that escapes are the first things to learn as a white/blue belt, it is the foundation to build your game and he really delivers it with all the details. Great as always!
By far the best instructional for a beginner. It is very helpful for someone that has spent some time on the map, but doesn't understand how to piece it together. He explains escapes and gives contingency plans if something changes midway through the execution. Very detailed and precise. May seem like information overload at first, but JD has immense knowledge of the the baby steps of BJJ.
Its just amazing how John can explain bjj, it is not a simple "just do this", he explains the topics in an almost scientific way, is amazing how much you can learn with just one instructional!
Another fantastic video from THE professor. Definitely need to repeat it a few times to digest all of the detailed information.
This really helps! Grab someone or more and learn the things from DVD 3 and 4 on. Just do those and the back attack escape for 2 or 3 months a few times a week. Just 20 minutes. From white belt on. And review it after one or two years. You will have gained a substantial trust in your ability to escape. Which will lead you to becoming a monster in the making. Just watch the plenty details John gives you and take them by heart. It will help. Thx John!
Getting this instructional from one of the greats was the best decision I have ever made. It changed the way that I look at jiu jitsu and how to play it. As a beginner, by focusing on escapes you become confident that no matter what compromised position you will be in, you will be able to easily get out of it. John details all the escapes from different positions and presents different scenarios and options. This is truly one of the greatest instructionals out there especially for beginners.
Another great instructional by Danaher. The man never disappoints.
Been a brown belt for 5 years, thought I knew escapes. Turns out I didn't know much at all!!!
This escapes video series is essential viewing. What I learned from this has dug me out of a bad spot in countless rounds and let me practice the rest of my game.
Super detailed. I loved the breakdowns. Coach also gives great breakdowns to the "why" we should do things certain ways.
This instructional has been incredibly helpful. The material is clear, and packed with information that I started using immediately.
