Love the concepts
Great video. Danaher covers many concepts of open guard. Over eight hours of content great investment for me.
A lot to digest but very informative.
Love John’s work! The PHD of BJJ
This John Danagar instructional is amazing. John takes a very intellectual approach to jiujitsu and it’s easy to understand. This has helped me understand bjj at another level. Thank you
Masterfully taught!
If you want get better at jiu jitsu then you must get this instructional. It will change your game.
Great overview of the various open guard positions, including how to dealing with kneeling and standing opponents.
i am pretty sure there are tons of guard focus videos free and ppv, nevertheless what makes this video amazing (besides the usual JD work) is the opponents behavior approach, thatput some order in your system and makes it easier to understand. Very good material to view and review for long time.
Excellent instructional. From the best of the best!
I started with the Half-Guard series and really enjoyed Prof. Danaher's teaching style. His attention to detail, repetition, and explanations of the concepts really work well with how I prefer to learn. When I wanted to learn more open guard techniques I waited for this series to come out. I haven't made it through the whole series yet but I've been able to hit techniques that before were just mysteries to me. So far the technique that I've hit the most is the Sumi Gaeshi. The details and concepts in the video just work for me.
The information in this instructional is unbelievable. If you plan to go further than blue belt then you cannot go without this. This will save your years of training. I feel like I’m cheating.
This is the poorest in the series so far, mainly due to the incredibly slow presentation and repetitiveness of the first half! The first five parts should easily just be one. However, when he get to submissions(I think part six) it’s five stars.
I find that I'm able to apply the concepts John discusses in the instructional against training partners my skill level and under almost immediately after watching the DVD and even without drilling the movement first. Open guard and guard retention go well together, first developing an impenatrable guard and then going right into the attack. His explanations and in depth specific teaching style is so good I don't even watch bjj YouTube tutorials anymore, just buy his stuff already!
Wow, JD comes out again with a VERY informative DVD series that is so very deep in knowledge of the BJJ open guard game. Just the section on gripping the GI itself is worth the price of the DVD alone. Me, being new to BJJ, find that many professors won't go to the depth of detail on fundamental principles that John does. Using his DVD's has put me on a fast track and the results are amazing. (I now give blue and purple belts a hard time. This is with only a few months of training.)
