The reviews
Excellent
This is an instructional I’ve had for a while, recently watched it again from start to finish. Really nice explanations of techniques at a nice pace. I will return to this one thought my training, highly recommended.
Good Technique
Good Moves for the streets
Some great & brutally practical techniques
A lot of breadth here, and loaded with techniques. I don’t think everything is high-probability, but if you want to add a legitimate self-defense angle to your BJJ or MMA, this is a very worthwhile addition to your library, especially for the price. The striking, catch wrestling, TMA, and BJJ background of Wolf Man show through and I will be coming back to a ton of bookmarks.
Good Stuff
I think these techniques for self defense will help me be better prepared if I need them in a real life situation.
Dan the Wolfman instructional
My name is Max and I'm a beginner bjj and muay thai student. Dan is an amazing instructor and breaks everything down step by step so even a beginner like me can understand. Thank you DAN! and thank you BJJ Fanatics!
Underappreciated instructor.
I have been watching Dan on his YouTube channel for the better part of a decade. Very underappreciated instructor. If you've only ever trained BJJ and nothing else, these are the sort of techniques you likely have a blind spot for. 100% worth checking out, it will only make you better.

The Best
Best collection of techniques that work in one instructional that I have ever seen
Clear instruction from an experienced combat specialist
I was drawn to this video because of my interest in Russian systema and catch wrestling. I could see the fusion along with other grappling systems. His explanation of breaking the structure is one of the best I have found and has given me insight
huge value
There is a lot to unpack here. Dan has decades of experience and tries to give you everything he can.
Just buy it
This is one of the absolute best instructionals on this site and especially for street situations, which is often neglected. Very good instructor who is detailed and explains with a pace that is just right. This is a blend of techniques that work from several arts and it’s wonderful to see them being used together. I sincerely hope Dan releases more content as it is some of the highest quality I’ve seen and I’ve been training in various arts since 1986.
Works like a charm
I really like the content and the presentation. I used some of the aikido ideas that dan presented in a jiujitsu class. They worked beautifully.
Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging:Go Get It!!
My cup of tea! Techniques and real stories – this stuff really clicks, 'cause Dan tried and applied it in actual face-offs
Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging:Interesting techniques.
Was looking for Eric Paulson mma/ catch wrestling seminars on YouTube. Found a free mma seminar from Dan the Wolfman. Went to his page and found a treasure trove of techniques to attack and escape the most common positions which was exactly what I was looking for. Felt obligated to give something back for all the free stuff he gave me. Was also very interested in the aikido, and systema. Very much worth the money for all the novel techniques and positions he showed, that frankly none of the cookie cutter bjj coaches talk abt. Watched the breaking structure section atleast 10 times at this point. And the front groin kick section is hilarious. My new hobby is going for standing wristlocks on wrestlers and aggressive ppl. 5 out of 5 stars.
Superb video for any martial arts practitioners to learn self protection techniques.
I happen to find Dan's video interview and other topics on YouTube and well, I happen to see Combatives/Street Jiujitsu and I must say, I'm impressed by the presentation, but the techniques of jiujitsu derives from old school Aiki Jiujitsu with a modern twist of Aikido and BJJ with street self-protection twist to it and his explanation is easy to follow from stand up to ground game, this video will help anyone from beginners to advance martial arts practitioners, also Security professional like myself and law enforcement.. From a Kyokushin Karateka, I approve this video and, in all honesty, to me the best self-protection video right now in the BJJFanatics library...Big Shout out to Dan the Wolfman Theodore and his uke in this video. Perfect 5 star video!!
Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::+1::skin-tone-2:Good, fun, dirty stuff
I really like Dan's flow of teaching. The stuff he shows can definitely be applied in a multitude of different situations. I think if you're thinking about getting it, you should. And add some of this stuff to your drilling routine and play around with it and I have fun. I am. My background is club security and corrections. I've been in plenty of scraps. In my opinion, there's stuff here that can add an edge to your tool box.
A great mix of different arts for the street!
Theodore does a great job of mixing everything from MMA to various Jiu-Jitsu styles ( not just BJJ), aikido and dirty street fighting, just to name a few. Gives good explanation of how to put your attacker in positions he doesn’t want to be in as well as how to finish him once you are there. One of my favorite videos in my whole BJJ FANATICS library!
Brilliant philosophies and techniques
Real world tactics and techniques. Great content from a well established martial arts legend.
A Complete System of Self Defense
The Wolfman has what I consider possibly the best street self defense system of any video program that I have in my library. Great explanations that are easily understood. Great for both as a starting place for someone’s martial arts journey as well as gold for the advanced martial artist

Combatives & Street Jiu Jitsu by Dan "The Wolf Man" Theodore. Best mix of all around self defense. Great instructor, would love to see more from him!!!
Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::call_me_hand::skin-tone-2:Awesome
This video will show you effective techniques that you wouldn't normally get to see in most gyms. I like his YouTube videos also.
Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::call_me_hand::skin-tone-2:Enjoying it ~ and finding it very practical! A review for relative "beginners"...
I’m halfway through watching this set now, and I’m most impressed. If you already know Dan, you probably don’t need my review, but if you’re more of a beginner in martial arts, this might help. BTW, this site also offered a significant discount on a next purchase. My experience in self-defense is limited but I have lived as an adult in two very different countries: Australia and over a decade in South Korea. I have some experience in Chidokan karate (modernised Shotokan), with a little in aikido. Others are much more experienced to comment but, from my experience, Dan covers a lot of familiar situations from a practical angle. He might come across too strongly at times on the internet, but I think he’s often grounded with the right perspective if you try to understand where he’s coming from. Dan is talking about fighting and this can involve not-so-pretty scenarios. Why be interested in self defense and how can this set help…?? As a kid, I had a guy with a knife appear and ask me and my friend to come to him. My friend ran off. I froze. Luckily, my father was not far behind me and the guy disappeared. Another time, I beat a young guy trying to fight me 3~4 times using the same judo trip and hold. I guess he picked on me because I appeared weaker than my two friends (true). I think I knew about two other techniques, and he knew none that I saw. One last story: A few years ago, I was in Seoul walking midway down a large road and was suddenly hit hard right in the back of my neck. I originally thought it was a bird, as I had no idea anyone was close to us (and birds hit windows hard?). I spun around with hands raised and saw this older guy. He didn’t seem to be attacking, so I dropped my hands to show I didn’t think he was a threat (partly my bluff) and said some choice language to him. He stared at me, saying, “You’re a Canadian!” I’m half Aussie / Brit. The person I was with didn’t know what had happened but pulled me away and told me after that his language indicated he wasn’t normal. As I turned around after to check where he was, he had struck what appeared to be a classic martial arts stance and said something about being special (or a specialist??). Almost all Korean guys do mandatory armed forces/police services. We kept walking. There are incidents involving foreigners here, of course, in South Korea and eyes can be upon us, even accusingly. This might have been his mindset. I guess this could have been any tourist. Sure, I’m thin, but I’m also average height for an Aussie my age. Last year, we did the same walk, along this “main” city street close to the king’s palace and other tourist areas, embassies, etc. No guy. These events all happened in broad daylight ~ and I don’t even get out much. All situations were completely unanticipated, except for the young guy after I’d fought him the first time. My point here is that our reaction in a real situation can be unexpected (freezing) and that technique can help (judo trips). Although I’ve done some karate, I still wasn’t sure what to do with all the situations that Dan describes. I have successfully not allowed anything else to escalate too much over my lifetime, but karate mainly taught me how to square off for a potential fight, when a situation could suddenly be in your face. Dan addresses this kind of real situation precisely. Sure, we may learn to shout in martial arts but Dan teaches how to avoid, phrases to indicate you don’t want trouble, hand movements to distract, and so on. I can see blends of traditional techniques and perhaps modern interpretation, with other realism, such as avoiding ground with simultaneous restraint and being aware of other attackers and weapons. The result, to me, looks highly effective. I understand Dan may mix systema principles here to good effect, also. There are plenty of reviews and well-trained people who attest to Dan’s experience in the ring, not to mention when we consider his experience in other areas like the security industry. Dan’s work has rung true for them, as it does for a relative beginner like me. Most recommended!!
Response from BJJ FanaticsThanks so much for your detailed review! :hugging:A must have for any BJJ street and self defence enthusiast!
This instructional by Dan "The Wolfman" Theodore is an absolute essential to my collection to round out my street and self defence knowledge. The concepts and techniques which are clearly demonstrated and discussed by Dan, touch on a wide variety of martial art disciplines that aren't necessarily taught in the academies syllabus. I couldn't reccomend this enough, a fantatsic instructional.
Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::+1::skin-tone-2:This Combatives and Street Jiu
This Combatives and Street Jiu Jitsu video by Dan "The Wolfman" Theodore is brilliant. By practicing these combatives moves in this video I feel safer to respond to violent threats on the streets. The best move for self defense is to run away from the situation. The second best for self defense is to carry out these practical moves in this video. Easy to learn and practice at home or with a friend. Thanks Dan
Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::call_me_hand:Great Instructional!
Ok I am 3 hours into Dan Theodore's work and I felt the need to take the time to encourage others to buy this incredible gem from Bjjfanatics. There is so much here its and undeniable value ! Dan covers everything you need to stay safe . How do I know? Well he just casually shared 1 technique that would have helped me in a situation I went through years ago. Dan blends EVERYTHING he knows and shows you how MMA skills transition to the street as well. It's like watching rare footage of whatever master in whatever are you respect. Highest possible recommendation!
