one of the best instructors out there
love it - one of the best ever
I’ve used tons of these techniques since buying the instructional! Garry’s reputation precedes himself and the escapes he shows truly do work. I’ve used them on higher belts in my local gym and they were very impressed with some moves they have never seen before. My armbar escapes have improved dramatically. My late-stage triangle escapes save me often from being submitted. Highly recommend using these concepts in your training.
This was my first instructional video that I purchased as a white belt. My survival rate against blue belts went up significantly. 3 years later and I still find myself using some of these techniques. Money well spent.
I struggled with which to rate this. Garry goes over a lot of escapes from a number of different positions and they are very good. I've frustrated a few people with his crucifix escape. I ultimately went with 4 stars because for the price you can get similar levels of detail and a lot more total escapes, even if you piecemeal with some of the others because they are cheaper. I'm also not the caution to the wind type that he is and won't utilize some of his armbar escapes unless it's a last resort for that reason. I've torn elbow ligaments before (not from his moves) and know the consequences in terms of pain and affecting my work and prefer more cautious methods. Overall, I would say it's a good way to get a few escapes from several positions from someone who explains the well and is more engaging in his teaching style than a lot of others, but it's not a comprehensive list of escapes, just his go to, which may fit you well if your style is similar to his.

I love watching Gary Tonon compete because he is relentless and fearless in his attacks. The reason he can do this is because his defense is so good that he doesn't have to worry if an attacks fails. He knows he has a good chance at recovery therefore he can fully invest himself in his attacks and this makes him a truly formidable and dangerous competitor. Likewise for a hobbyist, if you have confidence in your defense then Jiujitsu becomes much more fun as you can be more adventurous with your game, knowing that you can defend yourself in bad positions and defend submissions. This series is and incredible course on submission defense that will rapidly improve your game. I highly recommend it.
Great addition to any collection. Garry breaks down each escape in an easy to understand manner.
this is a cool good vid
This is one of the best instructionals on escapes I've watched, it wastes no time and gets right to the point and covers the vast majority of escapes you'll need
One of the my favorite instructors to learn from. I own most of his instructionals
This has sped up my progress immensely. White belts need it more than anyone. Well taught and good content.
