I've been training for about 4.5 years, total. I started in 2006 and had a knee replacement in 2009, after which I didn't come back for a variety of reasons. About 2 years ago, I decided to get back on the mats. Unfortunately, both then and now, one glaring hole in my game has been guard retention. It's been so bad that I pretty much let people pass to side control, where I can Begin to work. Needless to say, this usually puts me in a defensive posture. I've been looking at a lot of videos on guard retention, but they are taught by, and for, people who aren't heavy, slow, relatively inflexible, and/or old... all of which, I am. And he comes Xander with a system that is pretty simple in concept AND approachable for those of us who don't have the typical BJJ build. What's even better, is that if you DO have the build (or not), this system seems to work equally well. I find it refreshing in that it brings together many concepts from other guard retention systems, but simplifies them to the point that you can get a solid foundation and THEN add on the peripheral pieces, consolidating them all for an even better guard retention system. Highly recommended!
I feel this is the single most important video if you transition from MMA to BJJ in your old days
Improved my game right away. easy to follow and doesn't require a lot of flexibility. Has improved my guard retention and recovery even at my old age.
using this to help my son prep for pans.
detail and strong guidance
Excellent instructional
this is helped me stay alive longer really useful defense
good guard retention tips
The Diamond Concept changed my game completely and gave me the tools to understand defense as a comprehensive system. It's my go to recommendation for new people learning to survive.
it is really amazing. I highly recommend this to all white belt Jiu-Jitsu practitioners.
Pure gold from one of the best. Technical and clever use of leverage wrapped up in an easy to understand (Diamond) concept. A great competitor and also a great teacher. A rare combination.
It's not flashy, but you won't be stuck in bottom anymore!
Xande is a master of defende. His concepts are so smart and useful.
Highly Recommended
Ribeiro's wealth of experience shine through in this comprehensive instructional video.
Very detailed.
love this instructional. I usually love turning to my knees from bottom side but my partners are hyper focusing and creating dangers for me. Xande gives me great principles to use to stay safe and recover knee shield and guard.
great stuff!!
Xande has one of the best bjj defensive ever
Xande Ribeiro shares his signature guard recovery/retention. 4 steps. They work. You just have to identify which step is the next andcif you have to step backwards or forwards first. Highly recommend!
Best applicable instructions that actually work! Better than anyone else by far!!!
nice vid
Indispensable defensive concepts
When i was a purple belt i was a rather good pressure passer, but a very poor guardian. I had (and still have) very bad knees and couldn't perform De la Riva or X guard or fancy stuff that requires flexibility and strength in your knees. Every one was able to easily pass my guard and that was a big hole in my game. I bought this tutorial and it changed everything. Xande Ribeiro teaches a system to retain the guard reliing more on concepts and details than technics. His system is very efficient and anybody can perform it. I thank him a lot for what i learn with him.
