I was looking for alternatives to work on to improve my game and these are just right!
great instructional. goes in depth with a lot of the small things that arent obvious when playing spider guard
Great. Very detailed. Easy to follow.
I was always a fan of spider guard and when I reached brown belt I really started playing with it. Professor Barral's DVD really gave me a great understanding of the guard and how to use it defensively and offensively. I highly recommend it. I watch his videos on IG and he is a master of the :spider: Guard. Now as a black belt I transition been spider, spider lasso, and collar sleeve frequently.
The video is well done and gives a good look at Rómulo’s version of spider guard, which is slightly different than most spider guards. This series is well worth the price and you’ll pick up at least a few techniques that will fit into your game.
Good intro to Spider Guard.
awesome details all round, been putting them in use at training. hoping to win a world masters tittle with this game next year
Not many people better to learn spider guard from.
Romulo is truly a master of this technique and is an incredible instructor. Sweeps, submissions and guard retention are all covered. If you’re interested in spider guard you couldn’t find a better instructional.
awsome!!
R. B. shows his gameplan that made him so famous. He uses the spiderguard as a dynamic home base to attack directly out of it or transition to other guards and hit his attacks then depending on his opponents reaction. Recommend!
As somebody new to spider guard this instructional has helped me immensely!
If you want to learn Spider guard then you are in the right place! There is no better spider guard than from the legend Romulo Barral who, above all, has excellent teaching skills.
Great instructional
Awesome instructional by Romulo Barral. Helped me establish and great spider guard that I can continue to build off of!
Next great stuff from professor Barral.
This instructional is structured firstly around teaching spider guard retention and recovery; followed by how to effectively apply pressure on the opponent’s biceps to move them in different directions; and then the remaining content teaches a large series of sweeps using both the basic spider, in combination with the lasso, in combination with different leg movements or transitions to different guards and using the spider-collar sleeve; and throughout the instructional submissions are taught (i.e., triangle, armbar, omaplata, toehold, kneebar, calf crush plus several back takes). Certainly not a major issue, however it would have been useful if some additional content had been incorporated, including an overview of the spider guard (e.g., basic information via a quick overview), information on entries and suggested drills to improve your spider guard. The instructional has a total runtime of 2 hours and 39 minutes. Romulo Barral teaches the techniques in a logical progression, including the likely opponent responses. Techniques are repeated multiple times and from different angles. The instruction and demonstrations are clear. The Uke is excellent and clearly knows what is required of him. Romulo Barral stays focused on the content and the instructional has not been difficult for me to have watched it several times. The techniques taught are effective, not overly complicated and after learning the techniques you don’t have to be particularly flexible or athletic to do them well. Sound and video quality are good, but basic, noting the general limitations of a single fixed camera. The quality of the video and sound are consistent with the available previews (i.e., sharp focus, good range and lighting and the sound is clear). A plus is that the instructor and the Uke wear different coloured uniforms to identify their individual limbs more easily. In my opinion this is an excellent instructional on the spider guard. I think the solid coverage on guard retention and recovery sets this instructional apart from the others. If you wish to improve your knowledge and skills in the spider guard, I don’t think you will be disappointed.
The definitive spider guard instructional. A must!
