Such a key movement, it's broken down in excellent detail here
Has helped me understand straight ankle locks very well!
Phenomenal breakdown on a versatile technique, also less monotonous then other Danaher videos
Used this to help begin building a system for myself after gaining blue belt and to beat the dreaded blue belt blues.
Really helped me understand what I’m doing and where I was going wrong

Simple and Strong
John Danaher’s Master the Move: Arm Drags is exactly what you expect from Danaher: systematic, conceptual, and incredibly detailed—but in a way that actually makes the technique easier to apply live. Rather than treating the arm drag as a single technique, Danaher breaks it down as a movement concept that shows up everywhere: standing, seated guard, butterfly, half guard, and transitions to the back. He spends a lot of time on grips, off-balancing, angle creation, and—most importantly—why arm drags fail and how to fix them. What really stood out to me was how much emphasis he puts on alignment, posture control, and timing. Small details like elbow position, shoulder rotation, and foot placement completely changed the effectiveness of my arm drags during live rounds. This isn’t just “do this, then that”—it’s understanding the mechanics so you can adapt the arm drag to different reactions. The pacing is deliberate, but if you’re someone who appreciates deep understanding and long-term skill development, this instructional delivers. After watching and drilling the material, I immediately noticed more success creating angles, entering the back, and forcing reactions that opened up other attacks. If you use arm drags at all—or want to—this is a high-value instructional that will elevate your grappling across multiple positions. Highly recommended for anyone serious about improving their BJJ.
