A lot of good info
This series should be the cornerstone of everyone’s jiu jitsu journey.
Amazing stuff! Super detailed, doesn't just show you what works but shows you exactly why it works.
I found Pin Escapes & Turtle Escapes: BJJ Fundamentals – Go Further Faster by John Danaher to be one of the most detailed and structured BJJ instructionals I’ve used. The concepts are explained clearly, and the emphasis on fundamentals, framing, bridging, and positional survival really helped improve my confidence in bad positions. It’s especially valuable for beginners and intermediate practitioners who want a systematic understanding of escapes rather than just memorizing techniques. The instructional is definitely long and very detail-heavy, but the depth of explanation makes the techniques easier to apply during live rolling. The turtle escape section was particularly useful, and I noticed immediate improvements in my defensive awareness and ability to recover guard. Overall, it’s an excellent resource for building strong defensive fundamentals in BJJ.
Excellent video
Fundamentals can never be outdated.
This was great
This series gives very detailed insight on how to deal with most of the really awful positions you find yourself in, especially at lower belts.
Great structured instructional. Puts everything into place. Lays down all the fundamental with all required details. I am planning to get the entire series now.
I like the way John explains a technique. He explains the reasons why a technique works and he shows it using multiple angles. The only drawback that I can think of is the explanation sometimes can be a bit too long.
Very good, easy to follow
I've recently started BJJ and this has been an excellent supplement to what i'm learning from in person training.
This instructional provides very good details on escaping even difficult opponents
The one thing I love most about John Danaher's material is that it's so comprehensive and he leaves no room for error or misunderstanding and it's all very easy to understand.
Everything from John is amazing. What love about this is it dives into the principles of one of the most important aspects of BJJ
These are the basics explained in a very comprehensive fashion. I have never seen so much detail.
This is a very useful series. The basics are explained in a very comprehensive fashion.
I reluctantly bought this due to me wanting to work on something more flashy and offensive, but I'm so happy I did, and went through all of it. You learn escapes, but it also has so much about offense. Start with this one! You won't regret it.
After hearing Danaher say in an interview his recommended progression through the fundamentals, I began with this course and intend to go through the rest of GFF (as a primarily gi player.) This is incredible information. It is detailed and deep. Danaher presents a framework for understanding the mechanics of the movements that he teaches. Highly recommend! I 100% intend to purchase and go through the rest of the series.
A very detailed and systematic approach to surviving and escaping bad positions. John Danaher focuses on concepts, structure, and step-by-step mechanics that work against strong pressure. Best for intermediate/advanced grapplers—can feel heavy and technical for beginners.
Good
I'm a white belt with around 9 months experience. This instructional made it possible for me easily escape whites and blues in my gym, sometimes even big purples. I understand so many controlling positions and how to get out of them, what the main battles are etc. This is a great video, highly recommend if you want to stop getting pinned all the time in rolls.
The first video every BJJ practitioner should watch.
Another great guide from Mr Danaher, highly recommended.
As expected a thorough investigation into escapes. Some people say that his videos are too long, but I find them to be the ultimate resource for full understanding of anything he teaches, and this instructional is no different. Filled with fundamentals and incredible detail, it has immediately helped to up my escape game. Highly recommended.
