Hello, I started BJJ three months ago, and these Guard Retention capsules have really changed the fluidity of my rolls. I highly recommend trying them!
This instructional is extremely informative, I wish it was the very first instructional i purchased!
Details, details, details! Arms are temporary strong frames to get my legs back in to push opponent back where you want them to be. Danaher always has great reminders in order to give you success.
Realmente muito bom, porque pra falar de guarda, também precisa falar de passagem e é muito completo
JD as its best, you need to take time and go through it!
Like Danaher says, following this after the pin escapes builds a solid foundation of confidence to build up to a well rounded game.
Great Video
This level of detail was assumed but not expected
Great!
Nice
Prof Danaher masterfully shows his genius on new age jiu jitsu in this guard retention instructional.
Thank you Mr Danaher!
The focus on structure, distance, and frames improved my recovery. It’s one of the most valuable instructionals I’ve purchased.
The focus on structure, distance, and frames immediately improved my recovery. It’s easily one of the most valuable instructionals I’ve purchased.
This is the type of content you don't want to miss as a beginner and have to catch up later. But it's important to note that because guard retention in reality is a very dinamic exchange, I have found the content to be quite difficult to apply. Expect around 6 months to really get these techniques down.
As always, John provides a great tutorial. Plenty of detail, well-organized, and most importantly, clear and easy to understand.
So far my guard retention hasn't likely improved more than about 10%, but when people run to my side and I start the rolling inversion people freak out. I'm a 275lb 58 year old guy. And they freak out so much that they just seem to open up for attacks. I'm still learning the movements that Danaher considers essential components of the more complicated moves, but they are already making a difference for me.

This man, as usual and make everything simple , useful and manageable
Great
Most guys at my gym don't invert. I already look bizarre to everyone else now that I'm trying to do some of the inversions that Danaher considers fundamental. I've watched all the general instructions from the videos but have not gotten to the specific instructions for specific responses to specific passes that fill the last few videos of this series. I just thought I would learn the general movements then use the specific defenses as things I look up as I troubleshoot difficult passers. In fact what I am focusing on every day right now is video 3, which is perhaps 9 of what JD considers the basic movements of guard retention in jiu jitsu (none of which I thought of previously as essential). Just drilling those a little bit for a week or two has changed my game, and I really just got started. I really see a lot of potential just based on integrating JD's general principles. I used to make fun of JD, but now I am eating crow--this stuff is gold.
Excellent fundamentals in retention, easy to follow
