Excellent resource with amazing insight.
I really enjoyed the way this instructional was broken down. I can easily find the tech I am trying to review within the course and I can easily understand why I am trying to do what is being taught. John Is a master at teaching. I am a white belt but I feel like this has helped me understand more than just the moves.
Great combo for control and subs and follow ups, however he did not cover the Kasa/set out and another variation of the side control. But really great combos. Thanks!
I really enjoyed this instructional. What a great teacher. I learned so much and love the format of the instructional. Great to also use as a encyclopedia of techniques as well to study over time.
solid beginning to advanced concepts
Excellent insight to control points.
For me controlling and advancing from side control has been tough on higher level opponents with good escapes. The details in this series are going to help change that.
As you'd expect from John, you're getting a high level of detail not only in pins and submissions but the transitions to mount, pressure and responses to your opponents escapes. It's a preference I think but I always appreciate the amount of detail John adds to his instructionals to give you a good understanding of the position so you can make good choices and also troubleshoot the position if you are not managing something in your game. I'd recommend this one for definite.
Exactly what you'd expect from Danaher. The only criticism I have is with his description of upper and lower body retention configurations. This is something I've noticed Danaher does in other instructionals when describing other positions or aspects of Jiu Jitsu. He'll describe the upper and lower body separately then he'll show them together. This at times leaves me confused because I don't know how the upper and lower configurations are supposed to work together. For example, in this instructional he outlined retention principles for the upper body, and then as he described the lower body he was switching between the upper body grips he had showed prior, but I couldn't really see because of the angle and he made no mention of which upper body grip goes with which lower body configuration. This is minor and if you watch him you have an idea of which your supposed to do, but if he explained them together it'd be a little more clear.
