super insightful details, I was able to add these to my game straight away.
great!
What can you say? You will learn everything about the Nelson holds. I'm still trying to implement some moves into my game. I think you can't go wrong with Jake.
Catch Wrestling has a lot of gold that is truly effective in BJJ and MMA. The Nelson Family is one of them, Been using a lot of the material that Jake Shannon has shown in the instructional and it works like a charm! I highly recommend buying this course! You can be quite creative with it as you can use it in MMA, BJJ gi, and no-gi settings!
Just finished my first run-thru of this material yesterday--This was a good, but less useful than I'd hoped. They clearly describe the variety of Nelson holds and a technique or two from each. They are very weak on entries / set ups (which would've been useful since most opponent's are careful not to let you jam an arm in their armpit). I also do not recall them clearing up what would make one type of Nelson better than another for a type of situation or to get a specific outcome. I had been working through Garry Tonon's "Habits for Highly Effictive Jiu Jitsu" and in Tonon's section on leverage, he explains the theories of how levers and fulcrums apply to submissions (but not to Turns). I went into this Nelson Course hoping Jake Shannon would explain the how's and whys of leverage for Turns. He does not. It is not that sort of course. It's just a collection of decent tutorials on Nelsons and some related holds.
Great stuff I’m already a big fan of Nelsons and use them with quite a bit of success in my game already. This is gunna help me up my level and make my nelsons even better.
great
A must have for grapplers of any style. Jake does an excellent job and the concepts are easily applied.
good explanation on techniques that we don't cover in regular bjj class
Jake Shannon's Catch Wrestling Nelson instructional is extremely valuable for grapplers and MMA fighters of any style. These are high percentage moves that are rarely scene and only used by the best.
The Nelson Family course is a great opportunity to those who might not have a wrestling background to begin to learn techniques that they might not normally come across in a BJJ setting. So it's very nice to be able to have exposure to different styles of grappling. If you're a wrestler who's new to submission grappling you can learn something here as well. Your grappling, your personal grappling style is an outward expression of your own individuality much like your finger print it's unique, I can't encourage people strongly enough to exit their comfort zone and to entertain different ways of grappling that they might not have previously considered. This is a great course, Jake explains himself and what he's teaching very well. Give it a shot!
Nice series that all grapplers should be familiar with.
Nelsons are unbelievably valuable and very underused. These techniques are great in MMA and in submission wrestling. Nelsons are great for standup grappling, against the cage (see Barnett vs Mir) and on the ground.
Very interesting information and Jake presents it in a very detailed way. Would definitely recommend
Decent content
Really great series that all grapplers should be familiar with. Jake has a ton of knowledge and is a good teacher. I'm glad I bought this one.
Jake Shannon and his Co.s deliver a general and deep insight into the four general Nelson Holds. They give a great understanding of the techniques and hoe to aply the levers acurate. Their instructional is underlined with a very clear concept of what is the certain hold. How to get to the hold. How to execute it ad an pin. How to finish from there. Recommend it!
I got here because of John Danaher lesson on the Darce choke. I wanted to get better at the setup. And found this gem. The Nelson family is good to have in any martial arts practitioner tool belt. *The transition music sucks tho but who cares the content is amazing.
shannon has an amazing way of explaining and breaking stuff down
This instructional is very useful to improve BJJ game inserting grappling style inside it. Very well done
I love the no nonsense catch style. Good to have as an extra tool in the belt.
Coach Shannon does a fantastic job sharing techniques of the Nelson family. The instructional is very simply explained, easy to apply the steps, sequence / order and potential options, that may happen. Lastly, the extra visual perspectives are a big plus which makes this instructional worth while.
Awesome fundamental catch moves

I've added this to my BBJ game and am quite successful with it.
