Weight Training for Grappling
Thank you for the solid content. This was very helpful.
Great for those new to strength training
If you're new to strength training, this is the video for you. It outlines the goals and benefits of strength training for jiu jitsu, gives you some advice on how to construct a program for strength training, teaches about deloading and mesocycles, etc. It doesn't have everything, but has enough to get you started. I do wish it included more sample training programs besides just 2x a week for beginners and 4x a week for advanced competitors - like a 3x a week program, for example. I also wish that it included more examples of exercises for each of the 6 essential movements as that's also really useful for weight training beginners. If you're already familiar with RP and/or strength training - if you already know about mesocycles and deloads and about how to put together a program, this video probably isn't for you. It mostly covers info already covered by other RP videos. If you've already watched RP's videos on hypertrophy, you're not going to gain much more info from this.

Great
Amazing video if you do BJJ. Wish he gave a few variations of exercises for the covered movement patterns, but other than that absolutely awesome video.
Good Start
I don't weight train at all, so I appreciate the concepts, myths and sample programs shared in this instructional.
Great course
Lots of good info, loved it
If you like Mike's YouTube Channel, You'll Love This Instructional
Mike is a fitness youtuber and jiu jitsu black belt with a PhD in sports physiology. In this instructional, he shares a good deal of his insight on all aspects of integrating your strength training with your grappling. He doesn't go too in-depth on giving sample routines or sample exercises, but other than that this is a great resource. I think the golden question for me is always "How much, and how frequently, should I lift while doing BJJ?" and this helped me answer that.
Classic Dr. Mike, loved it
video goes over basics in amazing detail, addresses how to implement weight training for hardened competitors and older hobby people like me. i was initially worried that being on BJJ fanatics would make him sensor his sense of humor but thankfully they let him be himself. this video was super helpful to me, easy to understand, easily digestible, easily implementable, and funny.
Good stuff!
Instructional made by an actual exercise scientist, informative and thorough!
Idk
Would have loved some work programs, maybe 3-4 different kinds for different kinds of styles
Dr Mike's the bomb
I recently completed Dr. Mike's online BJJ and strength training program, and I couldn't be more impressed! As someone who's passionate about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I was looking for a way to enhance both my skills on the mat and my overall physical conditioning. Dr. Mike's program exceeded my expectations on all fronts. The structure of the training is spot on. Each session is well-organized and progressively builds on the last, making it easy to follow and stay motivated. Dr. Mike really understands the needs of grapplers, incorporating specific strength and conditioning exercises that translate directly to improved performance in BJJ. The workouts are challenging yet manageable, and I’ve seen significant gains in my strength, endurance, and flexibility. What sets this program apart is Dr. Mike's thorough explanations and attention to detail. His coaching style is encouraging, and he provides great tips to refine techniques and enhance my overall game. The community aspect is also fantastic—I feel like I'm part of a supportive team, even while training remotely. Since starting the program, I’ve noticed a marked improvement in my performance during rolls and competitions. My grips are stronger, my movements are more fluid, and I have better stamina, which has made a real difference on the mat. Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Mike's online program to anyone looking to elevate their BJJ and gym performance. It's a game-changer that combines expert coaching with practical training, and I’m excited to continue my journey with it!
Pretty damn informative!
Amazing, always had a hard time going to the gym regular because I always felt clueless. This has helped me learn so much and makes me progress way faster.
Weight training for grapplimg
Great, very useful and easy to understand
Good
I like it, but nothing special tbh
Simple but informative
I am a Strongman transitioning into making BJJ my main focus so I would have liked if Dr. Mike delved a bit deeper into the advanced techniques although I agree that that is pointless for most people. I would have also loved if he spent a bit more time on balancing Bodybuilding (or other barbell sports) and BJJ. All that said even though I would have loved to have if there was a bit more in there this was still helpfully and DEFINTLY worth it if you aren't already a intermittent/advanced lifter.
