This. great series which explores in depth the why's and the how's of pressure. It is not simply a series of techniques rather highly effective concepts which allow you to monitor physical feed back and adjust accordingly while actively rolling. I have implemented many of these concepts which have resulted in recent comments such as 'you know what I'm about to do' and ' I feel like you're always up to something. This series is wonderful for addressing the often overlooked phsycology of fight. If you can mess with their mind everything else becomes more effective. Crash tested, Bravo!

The Split Guard System by Karel "Silver Fox" Pravec
Highly recommend this course for anyone who wants to have a deep understanding of Fox's game. Great instructor and handsome uke as good as Placido. This course can help my open guard which is my weakness and I love split guard because it's universal jiujitsu which means it can work both gi and no gi. I have all Fox's courses and love them all. Looking forward to his future courses.

The De La Riva System Part 1: The Foundation by Mikey Musumeci
I've watched a handful of bolo instructionals, but this one by Mikey by far exceeds all of them. Mikey goes to great depth in his instructional, he breaks down the series in a robust way that makes it easy to follow and easy to piece the bolo system. I highly recommend this bolo instructional. Mikey is a phenomenal instructor.

Josh's approach to teaching guillotines is one of the most well thought out technique instructionals I've seen. The way he articulates the nuance in body positioning, angles, and where, when, and how to apply pressure is AMAZING and changes the way you even think about guillotines. Highly highly recommend!

The Body Lock Pass by Lachlan Giles
I'm a older grappler, but bigger in size and this video was very beneficial in helping. I was missing a few details and I watched the first two videos in the series. That was all it took to have my first body lock pass with technique. It felt really good and I'm working on watching the last two videos. I won't give away the video detail, but I had to make sure when I tripod I had the other person on the correct hip and their knee facing in a way that they couldn't sweep me. Also, the grips for the body lock were extremely helpful. Also, I found the head position very important and keeping my hips back.

The Half Guard Anthology by Lachlan Giles
This is the most detailed instructional I have ever purchased. It covers entries, principles of control, retention, recovery, and transition for 10 different positions within the half guard scenario. It summarizes each position by linking the techniques based upon your opponent’s defensive reactions. I wish all instructionals followed this format. If you are having issues with your half guard as a position to escape, reverse, or control from. I highly recommend this instructional.

As a beginner in BJJ, I feel this instructional will be the most beneficial to me than any other instructional. In my first couple of months in class all I have been doing is trying to get out of submissions. I'm not a natural athlete and I can't "explode" out of escapes so having this knowledge that Professor Noel teaches is invaluable. The techniques shown are clear and concise. I like the fact that Professor Noel encourages questions and comments at the end of the instructional in case something is ambiguous.

The Mirroring Principle: The Kings Gambit by Wim Deputter
I absolutely love this instructional as well as all of Wim's other instructionals. This one is the culmination of his pressure passing, mirroring and offensive defense systems. And it all revolves around what he call the "mirroring principle". Give the opponent exactly what he wants until he no longer wants it anymore. And you in general meet pressure with pressure. Wim really breaks down all the postures, fundamental movements and the concepts in great detail. It is because of Wim and Priit Mihkelson highly refined defensive systems, they enable you to start making gambits and take riskier attacks. A gambit as Wim explains is where you sacrifice a piece for structural advantage. The DVD here really highlights how actually nuanced good fundamental jiu jitsu is - and how you can funnel your opponent into your game. He goes over what he calls the Kings gambit (triangle), queen gambit (armbar), and the fool gambit (omoplata). And what is most intriguing is the way he shows how the mirroring principle gives you a pretty solid heuristic for timing and determining what kind of move & energy is appropriate when. A lot of what he teaches is very conceptual but fundamental and thus has a broad range of application unlike more technique specific instructionals. This DVD and his other instructionals really make me feel as though I have a much deeper grasp of Jiu Jitsu though I am only white belt - and the great thing is most other schools have NO IDEA at all about any of these concepts, movements nor postures like the shoulder escapes, baby bridge and scoops. And that been giving me an edge on most everyone.

What an amazing instructional in that everything you've learned thus far on passing gets put in context. There are a lot of techniques you can learn from your professor, other instructionals, etc but this is the one that conceptually tie it all together on where everything fits in the puzzle. I also love Chapter 2 that breaks down comp footage, plus "mobility drills" that lets you see how to drill all 3 distances. You can learn the technique of the pass by watching the drills themselves.

Timing: Boxing's Shot Clock For Success by Teddy Atlas
I've bought a bunch of these Teddy Atlas + Kenny Robles videos. I'm not sure which is my favorite, but this one is up there. Disclaimer - I've been a fan of Teddy Atlas for decades, so whatever he says, I'm going to listen in rapt attention. Atlas doesn't just go through the techniques - He is passionate about Boxing, and you'll get a lot here - boxing history, life advice, and an earnest insistence on doing these techniques correctly. Something kind of painful to watch is that Atlas doesn't let Robles off the hook, as they go through the techniques - Not only is Atlas training us, but he's training Robles right there on the spot, and if Robles doesn't do it the way Atlas wants it, they repeat it, sometimes three/four times. Atlas is a master coach (obviously), sometimes explaining, sometimes encouraging, and sometimes getting loud if he thinks it will work. I have kids, and watching this gave me some pointers :) I'm sure Robles knew what he was getting into when making this video, because Atlas does the same thing in other videos. Respect to you Kenny, for hanging in there, and having been willing to be publicly vulnerable throughout this, as part of your quest.

The Ground Marshal Guard by Neil Melanson
I bought this instructional about halfway through my first year of training no-gi BJJ. I've always been more comfortable working from top position, but I reluctantly came to admit I had very little in my game when it came to offense from closed guard. Having previously bought instructionals from Coach Neil, if I was going to buy a closed instructional, I knew I wanted to buy his. I admit it took me a little while to warm up to this one. That's not a critique of Coach Neil, it's more representative of the fact that closed guard remains one of my least favorite positions. For me, two of the most valuable parts of this instructional are the body position basics and closed guard breakdown sections. The details Coach Neil provides about optimal posture when you're playing closed guard and how to move your opponent with your lower body are things my coach has only mentioned briefly in class and that I don't see mentioned much in YouTube videos about closed guard. If triangles are your go-to submission from closed guard, you will LOVE this instructional! I'm slowly trying to become more confident with them, and there are definitely a couple of setups Coach Neil shows that I want to try in sparring some time. I also really like the Irish collar section. I enjoyed the YouTube video he has on it, and I was happy to see provides a much more comprehensive overview of the position in this instructional. I'm giving this instructional 4 stars instead of 5 because I would've liked to see Coach Neil cover a sweep or two (I bet he has some pretty cool ones!). However, I suspect that would've meant making other sections shorter or eliminating them completely. Also, I was a bit disappointed by the production value in this one. I'm betting it was released in BJJ Fanatics' earlier years because the production quality doesn't live up to the standard I've come to expect from them (e.g., you can hear the cameraman coughing and opening some sort of wrapper at various points).
