Changes your approach to grappling
The Catch Wrestling Formula by Neil Melanson
This was my first instructional and it absolutely changed my whole game. Review is a bit late as I watched this as a blue belt and am writing as a brown belt but this instructional does more than just show a series of moves. It helped me understand a new approach to grappling for which Neil provides great instruction. Using half and full stocks from every position, heavy cross faces and head control, cradle sequences, and much more. Fantastic introduction to a more violent style of grappling.

The Closed Guard Compendium by Matt Thornton
Game changing for my closed guard, not just a collection of moves (although there are some), but shows you how to completely control someone from closed guard, and how and when to apply pressure from bottom. Takes time to absorb and needs to be drilled, but well worth it.

Foundations of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by Bernardo Faria
This is one of my best instructionals about fundamentals. I use it as a libary. You get several solutions for every possible scenario in jiu jitsu. Bernardo kept a great balance between important details and an overall understanding of the moves and scenarios. That makes this instructional easy to understand. You can see him playing almost all this moves!

Half Domination by Tom DeBlass
As an older practitioner, I appreciate Tom's teaching and perspective. Over the years, other players told me that half guard is a good guard for older guys, but I didn't really know why. Tom breaks it all down, not only here, but also his BJJ for Middle Aged Dudes Too Stubborn to Play Golf or Pickleball. Highly recommend!
