Pin Escapes & Turtle Escapes: BJJ Fundamentals - Go Further Faster by John Danaher
For me, this one definitely lived up to all the rave reviews. I honestly don’t think there is anyone else involved in BJJ who has put this much though and conceptualization in what they do. As an English speaker, his voice is easier for me to understand, as well- which may seem like a small thing, but over the many hours of content, plus the fact you’ll probably watch most of it more than once, it adds up. OSS!
Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::call_me_hand::skin-tone-2:Painful bone-crushing, soul-stealing techniques!!!
Championship Catch Wrestling: The Head and Arm Ride by Josh Barnett
You can see the pure glee in Josh Barnett's eyes as he discusses how painful AND demoralizing the techniques he presents in this DVD can be when executed properly. The head and arm ride, as Josh demonstrates, offers ample opportunities for both pain and demoralization. Josh gives details to help anyone maximize the amount of pressure they can generate in the ride without compromising the position, while also offering several techniques capable of finishing a match but also capable of making someone miserable and taxing their strength and willpower even on failed attempts. Some of the techniques were new to me, and some were old favorites that Josh provided new details for. I found the the DVD dedicated to ways to enter the head and arm ride especially valuable - I've been playing judo side for quite a while so I'm excited to have more ways to get there. While Josh generally contextualizes the techniques within his catch wrestling heritage, citing famous wrestlers that have utilized this or that technique, he also is very aware that BJJ practitioners like myself are viewers as well - and he addresses options that we can use in BJJ competitions. In short, if you enjoy hurting people - this DVD is a must-have in your library of pain!

As the name suggested, you will learn basics of leg locks. There are a lot of great leg attacking system videos. This one in my opinion is the prerequisite to other systems. I learned very useful techniques and safety tips from this video.

Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::call_me_hand::skin-tone-2:Potentially the key to improving your closed guard
Utilizing Underhooks & Overhooks From Closed Guard by Mason Fowler
This closed guard instructional teaches how to break down your opponent and then using your arms (i.e., utilising underhooks and overhooks to ultimately clinch the opponent chest to chest) and in conjunction with your legs to restrain your opponent, which provides the opportunity to either sweep or submit them. In some situations where the submission fails Mason Fowler teaches how to take the opponent’s back. Further into the instructional a series of rubber guard techniques are taught to again restrain the opponent in a compromised position to facilitate the application of submission techniques. The instructional is taught in the Gi and has a total runtime of 2 hours. In my opinion closed guard bottom position only works well for most people if they can break down the opponent and then successfully hold them chest to chest to enable the application of appropriate submission techniques. This approach can work well, even if the opponent is stronger or larger. Space in the closed guard bottom position is your enemy and this instructional teaches you how to firstly remove this space, hold the opponent close and select a relevant submission or sweep. As shown in this instructional Mason Fowler is an effective instructor. He speaks and demonstrates clearly. Demonstrations are repeated from different angles. Problems or likely opponent reactions that maybe encountered when using techniques are identified and solutions discussed. Mason Fowler is focused on teaching each technique including all the necessary details and there is no unnecessary banter. In my opinion the techniques are effective, not overly complicated and don’t require you to be particularly athletic or flexible (note his recommendations when using the rubber guard). A technique highlight is an effective way of finishing a tight triangle (Vol. 3 Chapter 2). Video (quality including range, lighting and focus) and sound are good. If your closed guard is not working well or you wish to improve, then I would recommend purchasing this instructional to add to your instructional library.
