I enjoyed volume 1 so much I had to purchase volume 2. The depth of understanding and details is truly impressive and he breaks down all of the movement in a way that only an expert in the art with a Jiu Jitsu can do. Ultimate Choke Escapes by Henry Akins
Learnt a lot from this dvd. Some escapes are obvious or really intuitive (as the one for the nutcracker), others really well known (as the one from the back strangles)… but others are pure gold, as the ones from katagatame. Moreover, you will learn a lot about the strangles by understanding their weak points. The quality of the product is great, Henry Akins a really great teacher. I appreciate the extra material, like the “discussions” with his ukes. Highly recommended.

If you are contemplating buying this don’t wait any longer!! Kurt breaks down the basic moves quickly and is great at explaining the why behind the moves. I have purchased multiple instructional videos and this is the only one I was so compelled to write a review on. He will not bore you with commentary for time on end. He jumps right in and gets to teaching.

The Closed Guard Compendium by Matt Thornton
Closed guard is one of my favourite positions. My teacher happens to be super strong in this position but I was always checking out lots of informations on the internet and on bjjfanatics. Matt Thorntons Seminar is well produced and perfectly structured. I also like the fact that he uses two teachers to demonstrate the moves. People often say: Here you learn the basics yadayada. Thing is: most of the people don’t know the basics even if they wear a fancy black belt around their waist. I can say this cause most of the closed guards I know do not cause me a lot of trouble. With this instructional you learn how to hold the position and how to attack effectively from it. I adapted some of the concepts and my opponent have now a very hard time just to stand up. I highly recommend this course.

First off Craig Jones is super foxy. I am secure enough in my manhood to say his tight shorts make my shorts tight. Secondly, his Jiu-Jitsu is almost the best, so if you want to be pretty good at getting up, this is the tutorial for you. The penultimate grappler has almost nailed it once again.

Side Control Attacks & Submissions: Old School Evolution by Fabio Gurgel
Professor Gurgel is a legend who developed lot of the foundations of the sport. As predictable, the more “seasoned” players will find a lot of things they already know in the instructional. On the other side, everything is explained in a perfect way, full of details (where the devil is)… talking about them, the instructional is a must have for all the beginners, to implement the foundations of the side control properly. For the others, is an occasion to reprise those basis and master them with the above said details. The other thing that makes this dvd highly recommended is the choice and order of technique, chained in group in the flow of the possible reactions of the opponent/training partner.

This has been a huge dimension that has been overlooked in the bjj game overall and watching Nicky specifically go through each reaction an opponent can make is very eye opening. This course goes through a solid set of techniques for anyone from beginners to more advanced to break down the small details that matter. I have seen Nicky compete on various occasions at the highest level and he practices what he preaches, so no one better to learn from than one of the best.
