The Cobrinha Kimura Trap System by Rubens "Cobrinha" Charles
This instructional teaches the kimura from several different positions including side control / side mount, closed guard, north-south, passing the half guard, passing the deep half guard, the crucifix and as a defence from a single leg takedown (i.e., Kimura trap). These techniques are taught in a GI. Additionally, in specific circumstances the instructional covers transitioning from a kimura to an armbar, to an armlock, inverted triangle choke, one arm choke and the head scissor choke. As part of teaching techniques from the closed guard there is a chapter on teaching how to perform the hip bump sweep. The instructional runs for 2 hours 54 minutes and consists of 48 chapters. Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles instructions are clear and easy to follow. He clearly demonstrates each technique from different angles, narrates with appropriate detail and the techniques are repeated several times. For most techniques a separate chapter is provided to highlight common mistakes, which is useful to understand what might be going wrong when a technique fails. In my opinion the quality of the teaching is excellent. What detracts from this instructional is the order of the individual chapters. Rather than have chapters dealing with a particular position (e.g. closed guard) organised sequentially, they are instead randomly placed over the four parts. I think the common mistakes chapters are very useful, but for several techniques the mistakes chapter comes before the technique is taught (e.g. “Crucifix of kimura trap from the inside single leg” and “Underhook counter to the kimura”). Another example of the odd order of the chapters is that the first chapter of the instructional demonstrates what to do when a kimura from side mount fails because the opponent clasps their hands and therefore you instead go to an armbar and the very last chapter of the instructional is how to do a kimura from the side mount. Additionally, I think it would have been useful, particularly for white belts to have an introduction to the instructional and within this chapter explain and show what is a good kimura (e.g., angle of the opponent’s arm, your hand grips, how the submission works and perhaps mention safety when training kimuras). Overall, the range, quality of the vision and sound is good. The film editing is not optimal and while it is only a minor issue, for completeness I am noting this issue. Several times, but for very short periods Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles is seen speaking but there is no sound or he is speaking and his words don’t match the vision. This issue is evident in the start of the first preview clip – “armbar from kimura trap of the inside single leg”. In summary, the techniques and teaching are excellent, however be aware there are issues related to the organisation of the chapters (i.e., in my opinion less than optimal ordering of the individual chapters).

This instructional was great. It makes this powerful ecosystem of chokes appear to be very clear, simple, and straightforward for beginners. Giles's teaching method is academic and clinical, but all the moves and concepts have been battlefield tested with narrated rolling footage included in this that showcases them in action against high-level players. Highly recommend it if you are a choke artist looking to wreak havoc on the mats.

Mirroring Principle: End Game Finishers by Wim Deputter
This is my first instructional by Wim, and I really, really liked it. Besides several of the details being excellent, I loved how he laid out the instructional starting from the back and then going to closed guard and mount attacks, which are natural follow ups if your opponent escapes the back. Obviously you can use his closed guard and mount attacks right away, my point is that the moves in the instructional follow a logical sequence. Very well thought out instructional, one of those you will be glad you bought it.

This was the first video I ever purchased from Bjjfanatics a few years ago. It is still one of my favorites. Lots of great details and covers many aspects of half guard. I especially love the sweeps, I incorporated as much as I could remember into my game for tournaments and it paid off. I got out of bottom position in a few matches and these pivotal moments helped my tournament success at blue belt. Many of the techniques in here are a permanent part of my game as half guard is safe for my knees.

Priit has very profound knowledge of defense. It's a sort of functional minimalism that enables you to defend every conceivable attack with a few simple postures. The running man and baby bridge can get you out of many bad positions without the need to memorize a bunch of complicated techniques. I would recommend Priit's instruction over anyone else's in regards to defense. He also has a website at defensivebjj.com for anyone who wants to delve a little deeper than his videos.
