Guard Retention: BJJ Fundamentals - Go Further Faster by John Danaher
As a man who is aged 54 and started Jiujitsu just several years ago and always busy to support my family, I felt my Jiujitsu never improving because of my age and lack of time. But with Danaher's Guard Retention and Pin Escaping videos, I finally feel I can achieve something in Jiujitsu. After watching them and trying to utilize what he taught in them, I see my movements against my opponents got much more effective and sensible. Within just short period, my Jiujitsu so much improved. I heartily recommend Danaher's videos. He is a real guru in this sport.

Diamond Concept: The Diamond Guard Frame, Shield, Elegant, Pedal by Xande Ribeiro
I really like that the same concept is used in a number of different applications. I used it in training and had immediate success with it. I would love to see more instructionals of Xande in the same format (application of the same concept in different situations).

Wrist Locks From Everywhere by Travis Stevens
Really great resource, for what ever reason wrist locks don’t seem to get a lot of focus however Travis does a great job is showing the versatility and how they can be used to set up other techniques when your opponent defends.

Systematically Attacking From Closed Guard by Gordon Ryan
I've watched the entire series from start to finish and have now started working on taking notes the second time through. Everything Gordon covers is very well laid out and detailed. This information as already started to help me with my open guard game. I was finally able to hit the omoplata during live sparring and it felt great.

The Grilled Chicken Guard Retention System by Priit Mihkelson
Conceptually, the only teacher on Priit's level is John Danaher. I find Priit's concepts & methods less overwhelming. The concepts explored in this collection has improved my open guard immediately. There are some that are taking me more time to implement, because I must drill and practice the movements. But I am confident that these concepts will make me better, quicker.

My favorite half guard style
The Coyote Half Guard by Lucas Leite
Being that I am relatively new to BJJ, it is during this time that one will generally explore various guards... and ultimately find their comfort zone(s). The half guard that Lucas Leite plays and teachers here is right there at the top for me. I find it easy to use and get positioning; conceptually it all makes sense to me. I have been consuming these videos weekly, and I will continue to utilize these videos and my game grows.

I stopped going to NYC’s hallowed blue dungeon right around the time the leg locking was becoming astrophysics, so I’ve missed some things. This is an excellent introduction for blue belts(I suppose? System dependent) and there around to see the “down under” approach. Recommended

Response from BJJ FanaticsOSSSGreat step by step Lasso Guard instruction with moves you can apply immediately!
Mastering The Lasso Guard by Marcos Tinoco
I've been studying this for several weeks now and have been really having fun with the lasso guard. I usually try not to add gi dependent techniques to my game because, so far, I like having the same game for gi and no-gi, but this stuff is just plain fun to use. I'm now consistently hitting sweeps on more experienced and bigger training partners, and not just the basic techniques, but the counter techniques are so easy, and happen so frequently, I've been super successful with those as well. If you're looking for something to play with and add to your game that's immediately effective, or you just want something that's fun to use when rolling, this is the perfect instructional.

Response from BJJ Fanatics:+1::skin-tone-2:This Stuff Actually Does Work
Diamond Concept: The Diamond Guard Frame, Shield, Elegant, Pedal by Xande Ribeiro
My old rotator cuff injury flared up in a big way so I wasn’t going to roll at all but I decided that I would just go easy and tap out quickly. I had to hold my left arm against my body like it was in a sling, rolling one handed. Of course my rolling partner of 15 years quickly ended up putting me on the bottom in full side control to my right. I was stuck there with the forearm of my bad side pinned between us. Instead of bench pressing up and away while shrimping back as I always did, I was force to use the vortex. I couldn’t push up and away with my hand and forearm using my triceps and shoulder so I used my elbow, lats and my rotating hips. This turned out to be stronger and more effective than my old ways. I began to push down whenever possible while moving my upper body back and away. My old friend has long since learn my ways and simply adjusts before I can get my knee in. To the surprise of both of us, the new system allowed me to recover guard. I actually started getting my legs into the mix even with senior players. As I rolled with others and submitted to more and more of the program, I began to have one of my best defensive weeks ever.
Response from BJJ Fanatics:+1::skin-tone-2:I am buying it because I felt guilty using his method all the time
So I got a portion of this watched from a friend and have been using this like all the time... I use it with and without a gi... I find this entire system fantastic... I haven't watched the entire thing yet... but I can tell you that I have literally changed my entire way of thinking because of this instructional. Sorry to BJJ Fanatics and Neil for watching and not paying... I am getting on the right side now. I can't wait to see all of it. This entire system is not high level in that anyone can use it... I taught the basics of it to white belts today at open mat... they were asking my how I was getting the positions I was against the others... Cons of the system - 1) it requires reps to work and it is not intuitive. If feels wrong the first 20 times you do it. It took me about an hour of just fitting and experimenting to understand the groundwork. Once I got the basic concept - I started modifying everything to work with my short chubby frame. 2) I have found that it plays differently against people with different body types... now I haven't seen the entire system so this maybe premature to say - but I haven't seen Neil Melanson explain how to use the system against super tall, short or heavy people. Maybe he does but I have been using trial and error. Positives - 1) you don't have to be flexible, strong, or even talented to use this. You have to rep it - alot - but this is not a set of movements too advanced for beginners. There are parts of his system that will test the limits of new grapplers but the overall movements are so easy I can't believe I never thought of it myself. Once you get the basics - it will change the way you play. 2) I have found myself using this EVERYWHERE - the principals of this skill can be applied on a knee pass, press pass from triangle, knee mount, ... You should start using it exactly as Neil Melanson shows but I am drinking the koolaid. 3) The more I show people how I am using this skill - they are coming up with new ideas how to use this skill with other combinations - there are NO dead ends... you can take this to a scramble - you can shut down movement - you can work to a pass - you can work to a sub - you can get to ashi - you can get to x... I mean there is no end to the direction you can take... wrestlers might want to turn this into a scramble - sub grapplers into ashi... Special thanks to Neil Melanson for making this - I hope you get rich... you deserve it. I am going to be looking for more of his stuff.

Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging:If you play Z - you have to buy this
The Ground Marshal Half Guard by Neil Melanson
I have been a fan of Craig Jones and others that play Z - I have been using it A LOT lately. Neil's take on the position is much better for players like myself needing the next level but am not to elite status. His movements are relatively simple... his attacks are not fancy... and the content is all top notch - so well explained... This is definitely geared for blue to brown belts that play Z. The content is done in a way that if you have never used Z before - you can learn it from this ... also if you have been playing it for years - there's tons of new ideas that I promise you have never thought of. The last move - the foot switch... I have been working Z for about a year now - I can't believe I never thought of this.

How To Beat Bigger Guys: Guard by Bruno Malfacine
New in BJJ, so Coach Bruno who knows how it feels to be pressured by bigger guys on the mat, is a good thing. He has technique that flows and makes sense. He emphasizes that the action your opponents made to your move, you have to take advantage of it. I’m not a strong on the ground as I want to be but with these technique, I can somehow be more confident I can roll against guys bigger than me. Thanks Coach Bruno!
