World Class Back Takes
The Ultimate Guide To Creating Back Exposure by Luke Griffith
There are two things that set this apart from any other back take instructional: Luke Griffith himself, and the standing position topics he covers. Luke is a world class teacher. One of the rare standouts that is as good at teaching jiu jitsu as he is at competing. He doesn’t just teach techniques, but the mechanics required to make sure they work, and points out the common failure points so you can maximize success with these moves. Secondly, Luke covers how to take the back from standing. Just look at how he used the underhook to take the back from standing position during his last ADCC run. I’ve seen plenty of instructionals that cover taking the back from seated positions, that cover how to take the back from guard positions, even plenty that demonstrate how to do it from turtle. I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone else cover the topic from standing the same way Luke does. The back takes he shows from everywhere are great and high percentage moves, but what he covers in the standing position is extra special.

Different in a good way
Power Ride: A New Philosophy on Pinning by Craig Jones
Not a topic I’d seen discussed before but it’s extremely useful and effective. Once you start to clear the knees in a passing scenario if you can catch a leg ride and **** the hips then you can tire out your opponent as you look to gain upper body rotational control. This has become an important part of my game.

The fastest way to improve
First Principles Escapes: Mount and Knee Ride by Stephen Whittier
If you’re a white or colored belt then defense is probably the fastest way for you to improve your game. Knowing what you should be fighting to accomplish in negative situations is more than half the battle. More signal less noise, economy of energy and motion. Those come from knowing the battles you should be fighting. Whittier gives you the task focus and the specific details to win these battles. Excellent instruction. If you don’t know it, you should.
