Basics To Advanced: The Low Knee Shield by Aaron Benzrihem
TL/DR: Low Knee Shield instructional aims to be comprehensive in covering as many of the techniques, concepts, common problem and solutions necessary to make the position work -- even against high level players -- while at the same time being simple and adaptable enough for absolute beginners to pick up and start learning. A very good product. Aaron Benzrihem's low knee shield instructional relies on a small, carefully curated set of concepts and techniques -- the basic ideas and moves could have easily been demonstrated in 15-20 minutes. (In fact he does exactly that in the outro section.) The nearly 4-hour length comes from his decision to demonstrate them in such a wide variety of circumstances -- from kneeling opponents to standing opponents and everything between. He takes you step by step through everything from entering the low-knee shield position, to how to set-up and attack from that position, to what your game plan could or should be when the position starts to deteriorate. It's a complete picture of the low knee shield from beginning to end -- complete with on- and off-ramps -- and a coherent road map for navigating a wide array of possible detours. And rather than being a system that exists in a vacuum, his road map is modular: meaning the basic set of ideas and solutions he presents can be adjusted to fit into anybody's game. A lot of other instructionals are either (A) a list of more or less unrelated options from a given position, (B) a closed system of techniques which relate to each other but not to any greater guiding principle or game plan, or (C) a much more narrow exploration of a single technique or concept. While there is nothing wrong with these approaches (they each have their place), Aaron Benzrihem offers something unique and fills in some very important gaps with his idea of the "the path" (a common theme in his instructionals). "The path" idea basically summarizes Benzrihem's approach to teaching: he tries to offer a reasonably short series of fairly broad yet clearly defined goals which can be fulfilled in a number of ways. If we understand what we are trying to achieve at each leg of the journey, then we will be able to get where we're trying to go even when unexpected obstacles appear along the way (as they inevitably do). And if, for whatever reason, the path we wanted to go down becomes blocked off, it is important to be prepared and to already know of alternative paths which can take us to the same destination. The instructional as a whole is designed around this idea. The road map Benzrihem provides aims for the sweet spot between comprehensiveness on the one hand versus simplicity and adaptability on the other. This approach is particularly helpful for jiu jitsu students who tend to (A) fixate on the "what" and "how" of a technique to the point that they completely lost sight of the even more crucial details of "why" and "when," (B) panic at the slightest deviation from the too-rigid route they had in mind, or (C) feel simultaneously lost in the dark and overwhelmed by information. (All very common problems for beginners.) Benzrihem's approach is a unique solution to these problems in that he attempts to provide the student with a map, compass and Swiss army knife all in one package. This makes it useful to novice and advanced students alike. In summation, this is a very useful exploration of the low knee shield position. It is comprehensive in scope, and yet the techniques and concepts it relies on are simple enough to be actionable. I am very much looking forward to using this to build out my knee-shield half-guard skills, which are very valuable for white belts like myself. In my humble experience knee-shield half-guard is a position white belts tend to find themselves in on a regular basis, and as such it seems critically important to turn it from a desperate defensive position into a strong "attack" position. I think the information provided here will prove very useful to me on that path.

As anyone who has watched Danaher instructional videos knows, the amount of valuable information is almost overwhelming. This video, as you expect from BJJ Fanatics, is well produced with both clear video and audio. The content is excellent and extensive. Mr. Danaher demonstrates numerous techniques that will improve your closed guard game. Depending on your degree of concentration, you may find that Mr. Danaher speaks more than necessary.

Perfect for someone is is laser-focused on finding triangle chokes
The Triangle Machine by Craig Jones
. There may only be 30 min of content, but this was a gift Craig Jones gave us all during the pandemic and it is loaded with nice, smaller details that I'm going to incorporate in tonight's practice. Its only taken me 6 years to figure out how to pull off triangle chokes in live rolls and what allows me to keep interest is continuing to focus on submissions is the ability to constantly find them from new/other positions rather than just from Guard. One thing this video does well at is giving us some looks from every position, even though its only 1 thing, I am confident that everyone will take away at least 1 of these triangle set ups. If you are someone that specializes in back, leg, mount, or side control attacks, you can blend one of these triangles into your game as a new weapon/tool in the toolbox.
