Great Options from the Bottom

I'm very happy that we are finally seeing Catch Wrestling provide some other options to fighting from the bottom. This is long overdue! Also very excited to have Josh Barnett as the one providing this useful and real-world information.

The Complete Williams Guard by Shawn Williams
Shawn Williams is a great instructor, he explains every element of the guard very well and focuses on some basics with detail that I haven't encountered before. I enjoy his deconstructive approach where he focuses on one thing at a time and discusses it thoroughly. Would recommend.

I had read The Oxygen Advantage and was looking for a way to practice a lot of the breathing exercises and this video was endorsed by the author. I've seen noticeable differences in my use of oxygen and energy levels. This is one video that will benefit you on and off the mat.

The Daisy Fresh Knee Slice by Andrew Wiltse
My guard passing has improved significantly thanks to Wiltse. My uncoordinated white belt self has been giving the blue belts something to think about for a couple seconds before they wipe me out.

Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::call_me_hand::skin-tone-2:Reverse Triangle the World
No Gi Open Guard Volume 1: K Guard by Lachlan Giles
I like the way it has been structured. Entries into it from various attacking and defending positions. Also using it as a controlling position where you can strike or attack the arm with submissions. It has some good details and is clearly taught. I've add it to my seat belt back control and crucifix game and I'm catching it more than I thought I would so I highly recommend this instructional so you too can add the reverse triangles into your game.

No Gi Open Guard Volume 1: K Guard by Lachlan Giles
Combine this open guard series with Giles' guard retention anthology and escape fundamentals and you will quickly start frustrating the upper belts as they deal with your new powers. I enjoy playing a passing focused and half-guard game, but I've needed to work on my longer range options. This is the perfect place to start building that kind of game. Giles has the absolute best instructionals and this one is no different.

Oh muse, let me sing the praises of Stephen Whittier's Accelerator Blueprint...
BJJ Accelerator Blueprint by Stephen Whittier
...because it deserves some praise! Keep in mind, I've got other instructionals from Mr. Whittier as well, so I just might be a tad biased. But it's the "accelerator blueprint" that I've liked the most so far. Why? Well, his stuff is universally useful, but the crucial part of the AccBlu that I like is him focusing on connection, principles, and maintaining position, instead of "do this and you submit him for sure, guaranteed". Not that there isn't space for both, quite the contrary - there's plenty of submission-focused instructionals and I've got some of them. But if I have to take one of keeping position and attempting a submission, I've found that it pays to keep the position. And that's the biggest challenge for a white belt like me. Also, keep in mind that Mr. Whittier mentions at one point that in his gym, submissions are relegated to the rank of less important moves, but his students still hit them during competitions. Why? Because if you can keep the position and isolate an extremity, the submission often becomes a lot easier! So in a roundabout way, this instructional should help your submission rate as well. Also, the way the material is presented (as a process, not as a set of instructions) is top notch. I wish more instructional/instructors presented the material in the same way! ...I think that should be enough for a review.
Lapel Chokes From Everywhere
High Level Fundamentals by Gregor Gracie
This is one of the best Lapel choke instructionals out there. At first I was sceptical at first because I've seen quite a few Lapel Choke instructionals, but I was sold on it when I watched the preview of Miko Hytonen teaching. The guy is a Brown belt, that is not only hilarious but really knows his stuff, when it comes to showing and teaching techniques. Some instructionals while clear and concise can get boring after a little while, but I find myself watching this one on a regular basis because of Miko's humour and teaching style. Lastly the techniques actually work and are very effective. If Miko Hytonen's Lapel Chokes From Everywhere is anything to go by, than I can't wait to see what he brings out next because this one was brilliant.
