Fundamentals of Jiu Jitsu: Closed Distance Open Guard by Nicholas Meregali
In this series, the defining principle is reducing the energy you expend while dramatically increasing the energy your opponent spends. Break down your opponent, not just structurally, but psychologically. With the lessons taught in Under The Hips, you will learn to own your opponents weight with ease, disrupt their capacity to setup offensive movements, and ultimately out-work them into submission. As you improve in the off-balancing techniques, you'll find opponents effectively sweeping themselves as they struggle in desperation to escape your guard, fend off the threat of attacks, and ultimately remove their will to fight, all before even getting to the desired submission. By the time you're entering into your choke or lock of choice, they're ready to tap and they'll thank you for making it look good when they tap.

Meregali keeps it simple and effective, what he shows here is what he uses in his competition fights, why make things complicated when you can just do things the right with proper grips and body positioning from the start, I’ve been stopping people from passing my guard and staying under their hips for the entire round.

Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging:Builds an effective game from start to finish
Fundamentals of Jiu-Jitsu: Open Guard Attacks by Nicholas Meregali
Really well organized series. Builds the game from basics, to skills, to drills, to specific attacks. So much better than a series of disconnected techniques with no explanation of how build the techniques into a system or use them together. If you want to improve this part of your game, I think this series hits the nail on the head!

Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging:John Smith the underrated.
Championship Wrestling Fundamentals Cowboy Offense by John Smith
I once had a conversation with an association of mine who is an award winning coach in high school winning national coach of the year a few times. He saw my son doing the John Smith Low Single and told me it was clear that was my son's shot and to work on it. So I did as he suggested and we dove deep. There is a reason John has like 5 DVDs that include this topic. Anyway, my son started to get very good at it, and it's because there are a lot of drills and finer points of how to get good at this shot that literally nobody teaches. So few months later, he saw how it was going and suggested my next camp should be headed to Oklahoma as my son was really taking to it. And I asked him why doesn't everyone do John's shot? The question would be: Is it that John's shot is archaic and doesn't work? Or is it that nobody bothers to learn all the rest of the work John prescribes if you want to shoot this the way he and his brother did. It became clear to me after watching all of John's DVD's on the low single that there is a mountain of information that nobody knows if they don't dig beyond just the shot itself. I reccomend ALL of John Smith's DVDs. And yes, his methods work, if you have the patience to learn a completely different approach to leg attacks. Henry Cejudo and Max Askren both also claim the low single as one of their essential attacks. Got to be something to that.
