this is a very informative and unique instructional. he not only goes through counters to a variety of different leglocks but he also connects the escapes to taking a better position i.e., the back. i will be studying this for many years to come. he also prefaced this instructional by saying that these techniques are great to use in conjunction with your old school game or attacking with your own leg locks.

Fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Escapes Gi & No Gi by Lachlan Giles
With this instructional Lachlan has made it easy to troubleshoot your escapes. He has covered a great deal of every common defensive position and as the sections are well marked it is easy to find the right part. And there is both examples for gi and nogi, plus the rolling footage with Lachlans commentary is great, because you get to see the technique done in action. All in all, I think this instructional provides great tools to improve your defensive skills.

New Wave Jiu Jitsu: Mounted Pin Attacks - The 4x4 Mount System by John Danaher
This instructional is amazing and I can't praise it enough. If you get nothing else other than transitioning to mount with a single chest wrap it's worth it. I've been working through this content for several months (only really 20% through it in terms of what I've retained so far) and I’ve seen astronomical leaps in my mount game. I can’t overstate how large of a difference this has made. It’s helped me retain the mount on the few people that used to always escape. It’s working on black belts. No matter who it is, if they let me get to a single chest wrap mount I am confident in my ability to get a submission. The upper belts at my gym step their game up and I can feel panic if I get remotely near transitioning to mount with a single chest wrap. I’ve never felt so confident in my ability to convert a position to a submission. The sequences are great. The finishing mechanics are great. The heuristics are interesting and changing how I view grappling. However, potentially the largest difference I’ve seen is thinking of ‘sub positions’ such as the single chest wrap as a bridge between pins and submissions. I've been teaching content from this instructional to students and I've seen huge progressions from them in a short time regarding their effectiveness from mount. Being able to articulate why beginners prefer side control to mount, and why they should resist that instinct and invest time in their mount game is helping me as a coach. Instead of saying “mount is better just trust me” or appealing to authority by pointing to Ryan or Roger, I can use my words and make a real argument as to why it’s worth their time building trust and credibility. I feel like Gordon Ryan vs Pedro Marinho is probably the best advertisement possible for this instructional, but if that didn’t sell you hopefully a rando hobbyist purple belt seeing repeated success against decent black belts will. This content works. It’s simple and easy to implement. The details on transitions are huge and will eliminate space from your top game. 11/10 would recommend. I like a lot of Danaher’s stuff (even though he talks too much sometimes and it can be hard to sit still and listen), but even among his instructionals, I would say this is the best. Danaher, thanks for putting out such great content.

With all of the criticism of educators in today's world (some for good reason)....there is a reason WHY educators are paid big $$$. Because they can TEACH. Being a world class practitioner, doesn't make you a world class instructor. Being an experienced teacher, and a high level black belt - is a lethal combination. That's what you get from John's video courses. There is no-one better at breaking down and explaining the concepts of bjj. Buy the video, watch and re-watch.
