Diamond Concept: The Diamond Guard Frame, Shield, Elegant, Pedal by Xande Ribeiro
I've been training for about 4.5 years, total. I started in 2006 and had a knee replacement in 2009, after which I didn't come back for a variety of reasons. About 2 years ago, I decided to get back on the mats. Unfortunately, both then and now, one glaring hole in my game has been guard retention. It's been so bad that I pretty much let people pass to side control, where I can Begin to work. Needless to say, this usually puts me in a defensive posture. I've been looking at a lot of videos on guard retention, but they are taught by, and for, people who aren't heavy, slow, relatively inflexible, and/or old... all of which, I am. And he comes Xander with a system that is pretty simple in concept AND approachable for those of us who don't have the typical BJJ build. What's even better, is that if you DO have the build (or not), this system seems to work equally well. I find it refreshing in that it brings together many concepts from other guard retention systems, but simplifies them to the point that you can get a solid foundation and THEN add on the peripheral pieces, consolidating them all for an even better guard retention system. Highly recommended!

Not only is this the most detailed and technical K-Guard instructional around but it's also in the Gi which is not common these days. Even though it's in the Gi you can see Mikey use the same sequences and techniques in all his no-gi matches.

Jiu Jitsu For Old Guys Bottom Game: Half Guard and Closed Guard by Bernardo Faria
Bernardo is a great teacher because he teaches his own game and all the details that made it work at the highest levels as well as what makes it work for old guys in the gym. His game isn't predicated on flexibilty or athleticism and he covers every single response your opponent can give you with a simple counter. Implement his game and all your opponents may know what you're going to do but none of them will be able to stop it

Very interesting system of passing
Float Passing System by Vagner Rocha BJJ
Very good instructional. It look easy at first to knee cut pass or float pass but you need to work on details. And after, its magical : you create so much positive situation for yourself. Vagner is captivating, convincing. Good teacher. Also, the idea of cupping the neck is very strong. I use it in the gi. I think I ll study this instructional for months 😄 Thanks to Vagner and BJJ Fanatics

Home runs from everywhere indeed. this is wizardry.
no gi passing 101
Buzzsaw Passing: No Gi by Andrew Wiltse
Andrew does a great job at breaking down no-gi passing, why it's so different than the gi, and how we can actually pass when we don't have gi grips and our opponent is slippery and elusive. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who wants to develop world class no-gi passing.
back escape prevention
Control Freak: Controlling The Back by Firas Zahabi
Firas does an excellent at going over, not just how to control someone and get the finish, but also how to maintain control when the opponent tries to escape. he covers falling to the underhook side, the choking arm side, losing top hook, losing bottom hook, and every combination thereof. I highly recommend it.
