Awesome technique
Guard Retention and Genius Back Takes by Mikey Musumeci
Power Switch Guard Retention and Genius Back Takes by Mikey Musumeci
This instructional is well made and very technical. The details are clear, and there are some smart ideas for guard retention and back takes. For me as a heavyweight, it felt a bit too technical in some areas and not the easiest to apply. Overall, it is a solid instructional, especially for people who like a more technical style.
Love this!!

A Underrated Gem
Master The Move: The Back Crucifix by John Danaher
Master the Move: The Back Crucifix is a hidden gem in John Danaher's library. Rather than focusing on the traditional back position, Danaher dives deep into the back crucifix—one of the most dominant and underutilized control positions in grappling. His systematic approach breaks down entries, control mechanics, transitions, and high-percentage submissions in the detailed, conceptual style he's known for. For grapplers looking to expand their back attack arsenal beyond rear ***** chokes, this instructional provides a powerful finishing system that can catch even experienced opponents off guard. A valuable addition for anyone serious about developing a complete submission game.
Perfect instructional
Systematically Attacking The Back by Gordon Ryan
Systematically Attacking the Back by Gordon Ryan is one of the most comprehensive back-attack instructionals available. Ryan breaks down the back position into a complete system, covering control, retention, transitions, and high-percentage submissions with exceptional detail. Rather than teaching isolated techniques, he explains the underlying concepts that make back control so dominant, helping students understand not just what to do, but why it works. The instructional is best suited for serious practitioners who want to develop a systematic approach to one of the strongest positions in grappling, making it a valuable long-term resource for both competitors and dedicated hobbyists.
My favorite of John’s Instructionals
Master The Move: The Side Crucifix by John Danaher
This series and the back crucifix system have been amazing additions to my game. I have most of his dvds, and have watched them multiple times. His side control and back Instructionals worked wonders for my game, and when he released individual videos on the back and side crucifix, I was stoked as they are my favorite part of those respective systems. His attention to detail, and devotion to breaking down the why behind his techniques is second to none.
